Stopover Rules
I currently have an award flight BNE-HKG-LHR ticketed on one PNR with a 12 hour layover in HKG. I was thinking I’d like to do a stopover, and move the HKG-LHR leg to the same time one day later.
When I search multi-city, the availability is there, but the app says there are too many stopovers/open-jaws/etc. From what I understand, a 36 hour stop over is within Cathay’s allowed rules, but just wanted to check to see if I missed something. |

yeah you did, for award flights CX allows only one transit, of which it must be less than 24hrs (was changed soon after the pandemic started, to the dismay of many)

I don't think the OP mentioned the issuing carrier? Some have more generous stopover rules than Asia Miles and others price awards segment by segment (so spliting and reissuing just costs a change fee).

But if it were CX, then anything above 24hrs is definitely not within CX's award rules If it were not CX, assuming that OP's issuer's rules allow for such a transit, even if CX's website shows inventory that doesn't mean that its partners (the issuer) will have have access to the same inventory |
The issuer is indeed CX, so looks like we’re out of luck in this case for a stop over longer than 24 hours. Thank you for the clarification!

If you really needed a stopover you'd be bullied into splitting your itinerary into two awards, which of course costs quite a lot more miles |

The success rate for an overnight transit has been significantly higher Since your onward flight is to LHR it should be pretty obvious to the agent that you have no intention of skiplagging so IMO you can be very assured that collecting your baggage at HKG should not be a problem |
