Question about lounge pass when buying through trip.com

Hi! I have a question for you guys around Cathay lounge pass. I am Silver and would like to be able to purchase a lounge pass for my travel
companion.
The price for both of us’s flights is $500 less on trip.com than on Cathay’s website/app.

Their travel companion policy mentions:
  • Lounge pass is applicable for passengers holding a ticket issued by us (ticket number beginning with 160) and travelling on flights marketed and operated by us only.

Does this mean if I buy with a travel agency I wont be able to purchase a pass for him?

I looked through old tickets and could see that the issuer was CX although i used a travel agency but I am not sure it will be the same with trip.com.

Would love to hear from you experts!

If you're ticketed from CX you are 160 no matter who you buy it from.

It's not very clear from your original post:
Is your question about buying access to a 3rd party lounge or a CX lounge? Does Trip.com allow you to purchase access to a CX lounge?

In the past I've received a free lounge pass from Trip.com in the past to the Plaza Premium near the J Wing, which is overcrowded and frankly not worth the time.

As Percysmith stated, you qualify for a lounge pass if your ticket is issued by CX (160), so you have to make sure that it is. It does not matter if you bought it by a TA.
However, check that the lounge you desire is among the very few listed in the link you quote.

The ticket on trip.com is probably much cheaper because it has more restrictions than the one quoted by CX website.

Just being curious : can one identify whether it is a 160 ticket by looking at the BP ?

There is a consolidator Biz light, which has nothing added. This is the one that you have to bring your own chopstix.:p

It is similar to the cruise ship with air in biz packages.
