B77W vs B773
The equipment for my flight, CX810, for tomorrow, 14 May, was changed from 77W to a 773. What config is a 773? I fear its the regional biz seats.
|
I am not sure why it shows 773 to you but according to CX’s official website, it is operated by a 77W.
https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...ate=2024-05-14 B773 is a regional aircraft and does not have the range to fly to YVR. |
Flighty notified me of the aircraft change. Then I checked FR24 and it was really changed to B773.
|
CX's site shows a 77K (i.e. long haul 3 class, flat-bed business, no first).

ExpertFlyer shows a 77W for that flight.

if they put a 773 (regional) jet on CX810 then someone is gonna get sacked!
have a good flight - as others have mentioned you'll be on a 77K! |

Hmmm. Are you certain about that statement?

If Cathay Pacific deploys 77P to YVR, the business class seats will be in a recliner in 2-3-2 configuration with 12.1 inch 1280x768 IFE screen, it will be very disappointing if you sit in a business class middle seat on a 77P to YVR. The economy class seats will be tighter than those on 77A/77K with a smaller outdated 8.9 inch 1024x600 IFE screen than the 11.6 inch 1920x1080 screens on 77A/77K. They need crew rest curtains for the crew to sleep. They needs extra fuel tanks to fly to YVR.
My question is more that Reply1984 said as you stipulate (bolding mine) the 773 does not have the range for that flight. The lowest published range for a 777-300 (non-ER) is 6,030 nmi and according to gcmap, HKG-YVR is 5,555 nmi. My understanding is that " an airplane's published range will be based on distance that can be flown in still air (excluding winds in other words) with full fuel, departing at max gross weight, when flown at some optimized cruise speed or mach#, at a specified flight level, with normal IFR fuel reserves (fuel to go from A to B, fly an approach, do a missed approach, proceed to alternate, fly an approach there, and land, with, for a jet, 30 minutes remaining after all that), in standard ISA atmospheric conditions." So by all measures, the 773 has the legs to fly HKG-YVR. |
The 773 might just have the legs to fly HKG-YVR but definitely not YVR-HKG with headwinds. CX would cancel the flight before deploying a 773 on it.
|
I wonder if a 773 can fly that range with full payload, with or without headwind.
