Do I need a Cathay Membership?

Hi there

Sorry for the basic question here.

I have Platinum on AA and plan to fly CX in the summer. I was able to create a membership with Cathay and tied my AA FF number to it. But when I am ready to make my reservation, and use my newly created CX profile will it honor my One World Sapphire benefits and give me the ability to choose exit row seats for free? Right now, I do not see any indication that my One World loyalty is being reflected, so I want to make sure i am doing this right :)

Thanks!

No need. Place your AA number in the reservation. Free seat selection is not a defined OW benefit for partner airlines.

Thanks. In that case, I might as well book as a "guest" and enter my AA number. I know BA requires you to create a reservation in a certain way to access OW benefits. But thank you.

This is not optional. You must book as guest and enter the AA number to get OWS benefits (the system reflects them automatically).
If you book under a CX FFP number, you will be credited to that number and have no benefits.

I have done that for decades with CX and always get the OW perks and free seat selection automatically.

Can you explain more on BA? I've flown BA and used other FF numbers without tying it to any BA profile. SQ is the one that you can have it tied to your SQ number for PPS purposes.
