CX combining points with spouse

Hi FFers,

im hoping you can help. Wife and I each have CX points. I have enough AMEX points to transfer either to my account or shared across both (as my wife is an additional card holder). Idea is to then have sufficient CX points available (including the existing points in our respective accounts) for 2 x J award bookings SYD - EUR. Are we better off each having enough points in respective accounts for one award booking and doing so separately online on same flight, or should I transfer to my account and call and ask CX to add my wife’s points to a booking for 2 award flights so all on one booking ref? Hope that makes sense. Many thanks.

The only way to move points between accounts is by paying a ridiculous transfer fee.

When you transfer your Asia Miles to your redemption group members, a service fee will apply. The minimum block transfer is 10,000 Asia Miles at a service fee of USD170, and further blocks of 5,000 Asia Miles can be transferred at USD140 per block.
So you need to do this either by transferring enough points from Amex into one account to book 2 tickets or make two transfers, splitting the points so that each CX account has enough points for one booking.

The point about transferring points across accounts has been made above. HUge cost and not worth it

But assume that you have enough points to do either strategy. Then the question is availability.
Finding 2J awards for SYD-EUR is going to be rare.
If you first book one award, you cannot be certain that yield management will keep the other J award open. It probably will, but never certain. Or the other award could be picked up while you are going through the process of selecting the first award.

Thank you both. So CX wont apply points from the 2 accounts on a 2 pax award booking? I guess best bet then is to transfer Amex points to the account with highest existing points balance and book 2 pax award from that one account?

Yes they can apply points from multiple accounts to the booking. I was recently able to do this via chat (using points from two accounts with both account owners flying on the booking)

Thanks Czmuac - Thats very helpful. Did you need any verification from the other account owner.

They didn't ask any verification questions - just needed the Asia Miles number.

Many thanks czmuac for the quick and helpful response. I'll try that.

You can make a booking for two pax by phone using AM in each account. Each pax must have enough miles for its own ticket (possibly under the same PNR or 2 PNRs).
BUT, that is different from combining miles under one account as you asked in your thread.
For example, if you need 100K miles per ticket and one account has 150 and the other 50, that will not work.
