Chances of Gold status renewal 10 club points short?

Cathay has been more than generous with renewing my status the last few years. I find myself 10 club points short of Gold status renewal as of 12/31/2023 (with a flight the very next day as I’m traveling over New Year’s!! And another in 2 months).

What are the chances of Cathay renewing my status yet again? I haven’t actually flown Cathay metal since 2019 but have been flying OneWorld partner flights crediting to Cathay.

Thanks in advance! :)

With the generously lowered requalification requirement for 2023 and your inactivities on CX metal, it is not hard to guess what they will do.

They dont care and I would guess they will send yuo to the back of the line.

Thanks, it seems I haven’t been paying attention! I found an old email that I hadn’t read; so long story short if I’m at 590 club points or even 530 club points I’m good for my renewal, right?

Requalification for Gold in 2024 is 420SP in 2023.

Did you read the part where if you hit 600SP, you will renew your Gold with a bonus of 200SP starting 2024?
If you will end the year @590SP it might be worthwhile to look for a short flight to get that 10SP to qualify for this bonus, a "mileage run".

Thank you, I did! I don’t think I can at this late stage, if only I had paid attention sooner. I have a trip coming up over new year’s, 60 club pts each way so I’ll be at 590 on Dec 31 and 650 Jan 1. Just missing the cut off <facepalm>. My other thought is to start accumulating to QR after Jan 1 since it seems that qualification for QR Gold/One World Sapphire is only 300 Q points. I haven’t looked closely so I’m sure it’s not 1-1 with CX but seems pretty close.

If you are based in HKG, can do a short one to guangzhou (so you can take the HSR back to HK if you can’t wait) or just turnaround at TPE. Feel like worth it for the 200 pts head start.

thank you! I’m based in NYC and already have a trip planned over new years, the one that would take me to 590 club points. Poor planning on my part! I was more focused on getting to Bonvoy Titanium and wasn’t paying attention to my Cathay situation. My fault 😭😭

I was sitting at 570 club points and decided to do a mileage run today (Dec 30) to top it up to 600. However, I just checked my account and saw it is already renewed and balance is reset to zero. Does it mean my effort is futile?

Have they renewed your status? If so, you might as well remove FFP at the gates and claim retro credit next week, giving you a boost for ‘24.

You are fine with 590 to renew Gold as long as you've flown at least one sector with Cathay.
