Overnight layover question

I have a flight that arrives from USA into Hong Kong at 8pm and departs the next day at 8am. I am flying onward all on one ticket. As I am transiting overnight, I will book an airport located hotel. Will my luggage go straight through to my final destination or can I collect it and recheck it the next day? I will enter into Hong Kong through immigration.

If both flights are on Cathay (which I assume they are since you're posting in this forum) then, yes, you should be able to get the bags checked through. But you should also be able to get them checked just to HKG if you prefer. There's only one hotel located directly at the airport (i.e. walkable to) : the Regal Airport Hotel.

P.S. If you're willing to take a shuttle, the hotel choices get a little less dreary e.g. Marriott or Novotel

Thank-you. I have chosen Novotel Citygate near the airport. I will be flying on Cathay Pacific only. Just one further question, what is the default for checkin luggage with an overnight transit? Is it automatically checked to my final destination, meaning I will not have to pick it up in Hong Kong, or do I have to request this at checkin?

If ex-HKG the staff will ask whether it’s desired. Not sure also true if outport.

Thank you! That should help in my planning.
