Typhoon approaching Tokyo
 

Hi all
Due to arrive into Tokyo at 1pm local time on Thursday. I'm flying with Cathay from JFK and connecting via HKG. It looks like a typhoon is going to pass close by Tokyo around this time, what is the liklihood of my flight from HKG being cancelled? If this happens with Cathay simply rescheudle the flight for a later time once the bad weather has passed through?

1. The "typhoon" is not there yet. It is only a tropical depression according to Japanese and HK authorities and a tropical disturbance (temporarily numbered 99W) according to US Navy. It is not expected to become a strong system.
2. Given it is not expected to be a strong system, it is unlikely flights will be cancelled.
3. Based on current forecast track by Japanese and HK authorities, Tokyo will be on the navigable semicircle on Thu., thus the effect would be even smaller for a weak system like this.
4. Based on current forecast, the system is 3 days away from Tokyo, meaning there are still a lot of uncertainties to the forecast track.
5. Based on current forecast, the system will be moving relatively quickly when it's close to Tokyo (35km/h according to Japanese authority), so the effect should not last long, if any.
6. In case the weather is really bad, CX might cancel the flight (and put you on another one with seats available) or delay the flight.
