Intra-Asia biz flights ex-ICN/TPE can be had for 7k and give around 140-160CPs
|
didn’t realise about the priority for security at hkia.
that in itself is a big motivation to aim for DM to be able to skip the security queues!

I'd do it for 200 CP. But if you barely scraped past Gold, trying to earn another 600 for Diamond is definitely not worth it. Also, if you're not based in HKG, it's definitely not worth it.
Thoughts: * First Class lounges have way better food and beverage options. As well as cabanas and massages in HKG at least (less impact if you are not based in HKG). Other good OW First Class lounges are in LHR (BA), HND (JL), and LAX (QF) * I get perks like same day standby changes for free. Helpful on shuttle-like routes like PEK->HKG, but its an unpublished benefit so YMMV. * Priority security at HKG is really valuable especially given the staffing shortages there. Again, if not in HKG, this benefit does not apply. * Free buggy to the 60 gates at HKG. Again, if not in HKG, this benefit does not apply. * I've almost never gotten free op-ups on CX even when I was Diamond. Only got on my bday and full flights (got pushed up to make space for overbooked lower cabins) |

even when flying to a relatively far away Asia destination such as CTS in Business will only yield 40 points one way |

sorry to keep asking on this as I am new to this FPP calculation. I am trying to get my head around how your intra-Asia flight calculation can yield 140-160, as i am using the online calculator: https://www.cathaypacific.com/acc/en...sia-miles.html

Security screening at HKIA is super efficient.. Even without the courtesy channel, you can get through in less than 10 mins at the busiest time... Sure it's nice, but not a big motivation...
Still not bad compare to elsewhere but enough to frustrate me at the start of a trip, especially when this trend is unlikely to subside with the airport having manpower issues |

He's probably talking about doing flights ex-ICN to somewhere in Southeast Asia or India, which would be 4 segments of 30-40 points each, etc...

Fair point Chatter. I will be in ICN anyway and want to go to Indonesia for a few days so it suited me pretty well.
|
Is that the DM status really helps when redeeming award tickets with Asia Miles ?
|
7000HKD? go for it. Any one benefit with DM over Gold alone would worth it.

yes benefits wholistically are worthwhile but 7k worth is debatable (how do you assign value to F-lounge, for example?. or the fact they answer your phone in 1min instead of 3minutes. Either way value is subjective. it's worth 1k or 10k if you travel every 3 weeks after you make diamond on economy class, but if you travel every month on paid business class not sure how much the incremental value is 'worth it'. |
Yes, its worth it, but I doubt you're able to get 200CP for $7K.
The best I've seen is 41HK/CP round trip out of HKG. |
Nope in today's world, pre-pandemic and price gouging, then yes. Benefits have been systematically devalued. Unless you see free wifi as worth it~! CX have lost value for its frequent flyers.
