Amex linking problem with Asian miles

Hi all, it’s a great forum, my passport name is A.. b… and im not able to link my Asian miles with Amex. “ Dear, A…”

We were unable to register your Asia Miles™ Frequent Flyer account because the details you provided do not match the airline partner’s records.”

I called so many times both amex as wel as Asian miles. No productive out come ! Can someone suggest me and guide me how to do it.

is there any one who came across same issue ? Is it the issue with Cathy mode of choosing family name then first name? I started an another account with reverse name yet the same thing happens!!

Some financial partners match last name and some match first and last name.

If you have middle name with Amex (god bless) then you can get really (insolubly) stuck with AM.

Hi thanks for the reply, I dont ahve any middle name. First name A.. and last name b…. The problem is not with Amex, i feel its with Cathy as they have a different way of keeping names in the website or app like family name, middle name then first name, so when membership portal comes the name changes the order. Instead of A.. b… it becomes b… A.. So i have opened another account to reverse it yet the problem persist ! Cathy customer teams says they dont have access to members personal information correction. I ahve send emails attaching passport too. It become a hopeless situation.

OK. But you really shouldn't have problems keeping getting surname/given name correct.

On cathaypacific.com the names are frequently displayed as SMITH Percy as surname is usually displayed first for Chinese names. This does not mean they think SMITH is my given name.

I dont have any problem as long as i get my account linked to amex and i could transfer the points.

Shall i give u my Asian miles account no ? I can see its mentioned as b… a.. in account summary not A.. b… I have submitted my passport also. Can u help me to settle this issue ?

Cancel the Amex card and get a new one (maybe another type of Amex card), now with a naming matching the AM account.

In addition to the "given names" and "surname" fields, both Amex (in the US, at least) and CX use an additional "name on card" field (mostly just used for display purposes, as you might imagine) that can be slightly different if you have something interesting or funky going on with your name. When linking your CX account to Amex, verification only involves checking that the given names fields and surname fields match. It's possible in certain situations for it not to be immediately obvious which of the three name fields Amex is displaying to you; might it be worth calling up Amex and having them tell you what exactly is listed in each field?

Something I just figured out: When booking a flight, Oneworld airlines seem to require matching the title, in addition to given names and surnames, in order to successfully add a frequent flyer number to the ticket. This is a bit unfortunate when trying to use Amex Travel (in order to use the International Airline Program benefit) since Amex Travel doesn't ask for a title, so adding a Oneworld frequent flyer number doesn't end up working. I don't think this affects things if you're just wanting to link your CX and Amex stuff for the purpose of transferring miles, but I haven't done that myself in a while, so I mention this just in case.
(Actually, there's a weird boundary case: if the "given names" field on the Cathay Pacific account is empty (null value), if you book a flight via Amex Travel and enter the title instead where Amex Travel asks for your given names, then adding the frequent flyer number to the ticket ends up working...)

I'm having a similar problem but I don't think it's about names. It allowed me to link my amex and cx accounts without giving any mismatch error. But transfers are getting rejected on the CX end.

Is this Amex US?

Despite them having my name all wrong (details below), I was able to transfer from Amex US a few months back. Possibly, they asked for the name sequence when linking the accounts - although more likely that I changed it via my profile at some point ? Don't really recall..

My name is first middle last. A couple of years ago, when I was living in Singapore, I opened a card with Amex with the sole intent of having something that Amex US could issue a card based off since I was going to be relocating in around a year's time. Amex SG, like most FIs in Singapore, gives an option of pulling details off a government database (Singpass Myinfo) to make for a quicker application process. Years back, I had ensured that Singapore had my name in their records as appropriate in my own culture (ie first middle last and not the last first middle sequence that is more common in Singapore). Unbeknownst to me, Amex SG set my account in the sequence: middle last first (ie my actual first name as my surname, and my middle name as the first name on the account), which is also what Amex US pulled up, and set up my US account with, so transfers would have defaulted to Given: middle, Surname: first. This also led to at least one of the credit bureaus in the US not having correct data about me.

So, Amex US had my name wrong, but it was sorted easily enough that I don't recall what I did. Amex Singapore otoh - it took multiple escalation attempts over months, to link, and then again to effect the transfer. Link would fail. And, once that was sorted, the transfers would. Even after I went through a process with them to update their records to the correct name sequence.

PS: could this whole issue just be Amex trying to crack down, because Amex rewards are/were the base currency for a lot of the mileage brokering?
