Ours is completely over-the-top, and "not set here". Even the rules set by PAP on your side makes more sense from here.

If that happened in Hong Kong, the pilots would indeed be jailed. Hence, being fired is a rather light sentence according to HK standards.
Govt said the three will be prosecuted - for misstatements to health officials. Not sure if they were required to attest they were compliant with company policy on arrival, but they certainly made misstatements to health officials after being tested positive. Given Govt policy (policy which I do not agree with), the three will be made an example of.

These 3 are the unlucky one who tested positive and thus got caught.

how many are not caught breaking the rules?

I tot the pilots were issue room keys for one time use only ?

Hong Kong hotels. Not sure every crew hotel worldwide does this, particularly in jurisdictions that decide to live with Covid.

It's insane. I know so many people leaving HK now, and sitting in Europe nobody wants to go near it anymore for business or pleasure. How much longer can CX survive this?

Maybe it's all part of the plan.

It's part of the crazy "zero covid" plan pushed by China, and hence HK must follow. Nothing to do with wiping out CX - CX prob wasn't even on their minds when they pushed this zero covid strategy - but they won't mind grabbing control of CX from Swire if it happens. Just an added "plus" to take back some control from the "foreign devils".

I was thinking more along the lines of wiping out HK, or at least turning it into an irrelevant suburb of the Guangzhou megacity.

Then you're thinking of the National Security Law instead, which achieves what you listed out.

At this stage, I'm not sure there can be any serious doubt that the gameplan is both to wipe-out CX and also to isolate HK into irrelevance. I suspect HK has always been an anathema to Xi.
