Agree with this post. The people responsible for compulsory testing within CHP don’t even seem to cross-check other CHP records.

Situation I know of involved the threatening message Brunos alluded to being sent to someone for “missing” PCR testing while they were in a Community Isolation Facility (positive for COVID) under CHP order.

Based on everything we have seen, the behind-the-scenes situation at CHP seems to be a complete mess.

Hmm, ok, well I'm planning to leave on day 7 so I guess I should expect to get some threatening messages for missing the day 9 test

For sure... and those messages might come by snail mail sent to your +4 location.
Make sure to keep all paperwork related to your stay and overall compliance to the rules (outbound boarding pass, etc) !

Apparently, all those missing compulsory PCR are flagged and receive a 10,000 fine plus a nasty letter a few weeks later (usually delivered by the police)..
Even if you do the mandatory PCR tests they may still send you a threatening letter because of a glitch in the system (I know because my wife got one even though she did all the mandatory tests, but she simply had to supply proof to make the case disappear). So just hold onto the proof that you have left HK (which is rather easy to do as you could always obtain a record-of-movement from IMMD) and they don't have a leg to stand on prosecuting you.

HK immigration knows when you leave HK. If you were not allowed to leave they should have stopped you.
got grilled why the PCR were not done. But i dont think she got fined nor convicted. Instead they gave her shorter stay than usually allowed.

Bloomberg cites unnamed sources to suggest end of hotel quarantine in Nov 2022 in line with banker's summit and Rugby Sevens, but nothing official:

If I had a shekel for every time some "unnamed source" quoted in <insert your preferred choice of news media> was predicting the end of quarantine in Hong Kong, I'd be retired.

Just received this email from CX:

Hong Kong compulsory quarantine reduced to 3 days

31 August 2022

We welcome the announcement from the Hong Kong SAR Government that arrivals only need to stay at a designated hotel for three days before a four-day surveillance period
Wow. Really makes me want to visit Hong Kong.

Bit misleading. It's three nights. Also, in the surveillance period, you should be denied entry to restaurants and bars, so you can't eat out.

It is actually 3 days hotel quarantine + 4 days medical surveillance +3 days of self monitoring with daily RAT and a PCR.
Typically 10 pax test positive in those last 3 days.

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...tel-quarantine (https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%...ype%3Dhomepage)

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ek-report-says

(0 days hotel quarantine + 7 days medical surveillance [this includes ban on going to any restaurant or bar in the period]
Pre-departure and post-arrival testing to stay in place)

I think 0+7 works for visiting family (both ways), rather than enabling outward tourism

It’s a two-edged sword
Govt probably wants to stop outward tourism - no help to local economy and bring back germs
But then again that means no inward tourism either - as if people will come to HK for holiday/mileage run on 0+7

I don't think that inward tourists are the main target. It would be insane to take the risk of 17 covid tests (plus the pre-departure one) and being sent to an isolation facility.
Not even sure many hotels would accept such guests.

But the HK economy desperately needs HK business people to travel abroad more freely.

Let's just wait and see how those ignorant officials panicked when they saw thousands of thousands of HK people travelling to overseas countries and local restaurants and hotels being left behind...Just like what happened during the past two months.
