Usual gates for different flights
Is there a fixed gate number for each particular flight? Like flights to LHR will usually depart from Gate XX, or somewhere around that gate number?
Is it possible to compile this into a table so one can know in advance which gates the flight will be so we can plan in advance which lounge to go to, especially if coming from a connecting flight and there's no get assigned yet for the onward flight. |
Short answer is no. |
Nope, this is all very dynamic and managed by the airport control.
Most of my LHR flights have gone from gates 1-4 though, but there is no guarantees for anything. My advice would be to go to the lounge nearest to your transfer security point, keep an eye on the monitors and relocate to a different lounge closer to the gate once it is announced. |
I was thinking if we knew the usual gates already, we could head to the lounge nearest the boarding gates to get a quick bite if the connection is very tight, and the onward flight is an ultra shorthaul one, where they only serve biscuits/cookies and a bottle of water. |

Download the HKIA airport app and check it when you land (before getting off the plane). You can find the gate info easily.
In my experience the evening flights from Manila usually come into gates 67-70 - with 100% certainty if the flight is late. It's always really pissed me off (that we arrive late and then have the longest walk in the airport!). But other than that, no insights. |
About 90 mins before landing usually the air show channel on the PTV downloads the planned arrival gate and connecting flight gate assignments (both CX/KA). Suggest you take a look at that and work out where you’re parking and where you need to go, and then figure out which lounge is most convenient. As others have stated, although CX tend to use 1-4, 61-70, the gate assignments for specific flights are usually random in HKG. |
Indeed a textbook answer would be no, but more than often the four 'most important' flights every night (251 255 872 880) use gates 1-4
Yes sometimes they don't but whenever I've flown on those I've never managed to get a buggy voucher :) Changes in departure security procedures have meant that US flights are no longer 100% departing from gates with larger areas where they once needed the space |
