Hi I am currently on waitlist on the following flights, not sure if it will be cleared

7 Feb 2019 (Thur) - ICN to HKG
CX 411 (Y) Standard Award and Choice Award
CX 411 (J) Standard Award
CX 419 (Y) Standard Award
CX 419 (J) Standard Award

I know its peak season but I have checked the seat map on EF and there are still some empty seat, esp in J. Is the chance of clearing is high? I just need one seat of any of these flights.

Something interesting about companion ticket happened to me today...

It's always my understanding (and expectation) that as long as there's a redeemable seat available I can get it as companion seat. Today I saw a J Choice seat released, so I called 3888 and ask for getting it as companion redemption... Then being denied right away... Immediately.... Like reflex action... Not even border to ask the supervisor on the possibility of releasing the seat... After some "discussion" end up after forcing the agent to ask the supervisor (or pretend to ask) they agree to put me on waitlist for that flight even though I've 3 waitlists on that segment already....

p.s. Interestingly you can't redeem that J Choice seat using J Tailor cost either.....

They didn't release I9 as companion for a year or so already... But this is the first time they don't release redemption seat as companion.... Another "enhancement" probably...

Is it me or is it pretty pointless to have mid tier status with CX ? I am silver with BA and it is easy enough to confidently redeem and know you have a seat on the plane regardless of status - redeemed for my gf before who was blue without any problems and no worries about "waiting list needing to clear". I travel twice a year on average and will most likely be paying for J seats... that will only get me a "CX silver" which is equivalent to BA's bronze ... For the same price, I get a BA silver status which affords lounge access. Does "silver" in CX offers much weight when it comes to redemption ? I mean I assume that they don't treat you much better than a non status passenger when it comes to redemption right ? Just thought a waiting list redemption that may clear 4 days before flying is pretty ridiculous as no one would normally cut it that fine. How do you guys go about it ? I mean for me, it would be basically prohibitive as I need a seat. From my understanding, a redemption is basically like gambling to get a "free ticket" or if the waiting list do not clear and you need to travel within that 4 days, book a super expensive ticket right ?

Might as well BA Silver (OWS) if you don't rack up a lot of other Asia Miles from other sources besides those two trips (those two trips won't rack up much).

(will you meet the four trips on BA code requirement though?)
