Bulkhead seats

I am flying with CX for the first time and in economy I normally fly BA.

When I picked my seats online I picked the bulkhead seats and a message popped up and said they can move me if needed. Now how often does this happen? With BA I never get moved to accommodate anyone. I don't want to end up getting moved to a middle seat.

Thanks

I've been flying long haul with CP for about 4 years, roughly 3 trips/year. Always Premium Economy and always try to get the bulkhead seats.
Only once have I been moved and it was prior to the flight day.
So keep checking every few days to catch it if it happens.

If you see a lot of strollers or those front worn baby backpacks in the boarding lounge be prepared. They move people from bulkheads to put baby bassinets there.

If they don't move you prepare to have a row of babies and then you along the bulkhead.

.

I am sure you do mean CX for Cathay Pacific.
There have been many posts labelling Cathay Pacific as CP. FWIW, CP is the IATA code for Compass Airlines based in the US

If you are in Economy on one of the new 10-across planes - DO NOT select the bulkhead seat. I kid you not. It's even narrower than the other seats and unless you are a tiny skinny kid you will be in pain the whole flight. I know I was. I usually choose bulkhead too - now I am more careful.

Don’t choose a bulkhead seat in any cabin. TV may be up on the wall so you strain your neck. Or it’s coming out of the armrest and flops down - so you strain your neck. Latter can’t be watched during TO/L. During that time you can’t keep even a small bag with you either. You’ll be up and down to the overhead annoying all the others :D Leg room can also be less than a standard row.

I personally like bulkhead seats, no matter which class its in. There's more space and service is faster.

However, on yesterday's CX 785 I was checked in for 39B on a 77P. At the gate, the GA reassigned to row 76 - first time this happened to me. I assumed it was due to operational reasons (e.g. baby with two parents or so) with no other seats available, so didn't make a fuss.
During the flight, I had a walk through the cabin, only to discover that 39B was left vacant. 54D and 54F were also vacant.

So decided to ask the crew whether 39B was blocked or vacant. She came back 10 minutes later to say it was vacant and I could sit there when they prepared the cabin for landing.

My takeaway: when moved by a GA, always challenge their instruction.
