Likelihood of clearing the waitlist
 

Hi,

I've done a decent amount of flying in the past few months and have accrued a nice amount of AM to use for the December/January holidays. I have never redeemed an award ticket on CX and just have a question.

I would like to fly CX548/549 in F around the Christmas period and have done some dummy bookings, finding that there are 3+ seats available on the flights I wish to book. Is it possible to call CX ahead and ask if they can clear my redemption booking as I will need to book flights to HKG in order to complete my travel plan or will they just release at their will?

You mean 3+ revenue seats? Then it's very unlikely that this will clear given 1) it's xmas and Japan is very popular with HK tourists; 2) it's very far out and already quite full (the inventory does fluctuate though).

This was 20/12/2017. 3PE did clear last minute

But I don't think anything 2017 is a valid extrapolation of post-22/6/2018

Just about to say, if they swap a 77H/G to a 73Z, there will be a lot more Y and likely to release some for X redemption. But considering the posts about flying the plane empty for "yield management"...
