Update of OneWorld status

I am a Sapphire member (BA silver) and I have booked a reward trip in July on CX through BA website with Avios in business class. The route is SIN-HKG-TPE. I have added my BA number in the booking.

I am flying QR in C class to SIN from OSL in June and will become BA gold (Emerald) when I reach SIN. My question is: Do I need to do anything to update the CX reward booking so it reflects my new Emerald status? Since I booked as a Sapphire and I will then have an Emerald status before the flight. The crew will also see the Emerald status?

Ask CX to remove the FFP number and add it back later.

AFAIK - the status will not be automatically updated. To trigger an "upgrade" to OWE, you will need to do as above.

Not sure if that's still the case. Last year my CX outbound qualified me for AA (one segment). On returning segment the CX check-in email refreshed status automatically. YMMV though.

When it may be true, the manual thing above is the only guarantee that the status will get a refresh.

On a positive note, the system will often keep you as a higher status even after it's already expired. I flew CX several weeks after my AA Executive Platinum status had expired. But they still had me as OWE. So it can work both ways.

Just an update to this Thread. I am now in Singapore and my BA app is showing the Gold color for the first time:D I called both Cathay Pacific and Qatar today and they both said that my status was showing as an Emerald in their system. I asked then why my booking did not have the update luggage quota but they said that the website did not reflect this but the agent would see when i checked in. My boarding pass should also show Emerald she told me. I tried to take away my BA number on Finnair but it did not work. But this mean then that all should be good for my Cathay flight? The same status should also be seen onboard by the crew? I am just asking since the advice is to remove and add the BA number but it seems to work without doing this.

My comment is no comment.

AFAIK - partner airlines obtain the membership information from the home airline. So it is a puzzle why CX and QR can see it but not AY. It depends on how much faith you have. Just to be safe - always have something to show you are an OWE from BA and you should be good.

CX, BA, QR, etc. all use Amadeus, so the update in reservation system should happen at the same time. I don't think OP said AY cannot see it, but rather OP wasn't able to remove and re-add FFP on AY's website.

I have a similar situation with you since I will move up to Finnair silver status (Oneworld Ruby) very soon and I am currently a MPC green member as well. Recently, I booked a flight AMS-HKG with CX and my default FFP is MPC. The question is: Do I have to update my Oneworld Ruby status with CX or the crew will see my latest status and print my boarding pass with “AY/RUBY” rather than “CX/GR” without informing them? I would also like to keep earning miles with Asia Miles but not sure whether it is still possible.

No offense - even you are OWR, you are still in the bottom of the food chain. Unless there is a published benefit that you intend to use, it is not worth the trouble switching, given that your chance of enjoying unpublished benefits on CX is slim to none.

1. CX will have no idea that you are an AY member, whatever status, unless you told them.
2. If you want the crew to see AY/RUBY, there's no way to also earn MPO/AM (and you can't unbundle them). It's whatever FFP you print on your last copy of BP that matters.
3. You already have priority check-in with GR. Unless you are booked in SNQOX classes and need to select seats, I don't see any other benefits you would get as an AY/RUBY as opposed to CX/GR.
