Lounge Etiquette
Think some of us should print this out and show to that xxx when he/she is talking loudly on the phone !

I have given up. The Pier J, when it opened was like a zoo and is still is at times.

If time allows, the bridge and the pier being furthest from immigration tend to be quieter and worth the journey to escape the masses!
|
i didnt know there was this etiquette guide
in future i will print multiple copies and give to those offenders |
Speaking of etiquette. I was going to Pier J deep inside area where there are beds for people to rest quietly? WRONG. There's a family of 8 (4 grand parents, 2 parents, 2 children) that was talking loudly in the area with sofas and big soft cushion stands.

Still sounds way more tolerable than the average Admirals Club.

I must've been there at the same time as you (or most likely a re-occuring event). When I was trying to get some rest you could easily hear them talking, plus all the way on the otherside, there was some one (not associated with this group) watching something on their smartphone with volume on full blast.
Happens to me everytime I visit the Pier J, unfortunately. The exception I’ve seen are during late night departures at around 10 or just before the lounge closes a bit after midnight. |

Do you think that those who are prone to this behaviour will read these and change their behaviour?

I wouldn't say this would work like magic, but it could definitely help a bit. |
I'm assuming that most of those commenting on this thread don't live in Hong Kong. You are not talking about the Pier or the Wing or any lounge. You are talking about the behaviour of (if you are lucky) a HK local and if you are unlucky, a Mainland chinese person / family. And those expats who have been here so long we forget what normal behaviour is like! :)
HK is noise. It just is. And yes, I hate it too! |

i was in the PP lounge in IST and they have a sign saying not to put ur feet on table. people DO stop when staff points at the sign at them. For the 6 hours i was there its only the same ethnic group who does it, AND complies to the agent. So i guess having a sign allows staff to take action easier. just like how the lounges in japan has signs of no mobile phone, and in reality they really mean not to talk on the phone. |

Let's not point the finger and let this discussion degenerate into a race-based discussion. We all know that there are impolite people from all parts of the world.
I understand your role as a moderator, and if this was after a series of multiple comments I would understand, but the original poster's comment, particularly as a one-off, was completely fair, and in no way racist. |
How about people walking around the lounge Facetiming with other people...

So do you suggest not to do everything at all? |

Of course it can't stop everything. But at the minimum, it can reduce the occurrence.

While I applaud the idea of putting up the signs, I've made it an Instagram habit of posting pictures of people doing exactly what the sign prohibits, usually standing right next to the sign or under it (no smoking, no parking, strollers-only, etc.) I just assume that whoever it is (HKer, Mainlander, or otherwise) is illiterate. ;)
It's quite an amusing thing and given how often it happens, I'm dubious of the effectiveness of putting up signs without some sort of enforcement (i.e. someone from CX has to periodically remind people of the signs). |

San Pelegrino and Acqua Panna are not back in the fridge of The Pier...unfortunately I also saw someone packing 6 bottles of San Pelegrino into his carry on. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0b2e7f10c.jpeg |

how many bottles is one allowed to reasonably take away from the lounge for their own consumption onboard?

I think picking up somewhere in the neighborhood of maybe 3, definitely 4 is when it gets "excessive". 3, or even 2 I suppose might not be cool either. Although I am guilty of 2. Obviously less is better than more on the moral scale here. I often grab two; one for myself, one for Mrs. Qrc (who often leaves the lounge a bit before me for shopping, and inevitably always forgets a bottle for herself...). I usually open mine as I walk out just because I'm thirsty. 6 is without question well over the line, in my book. Even if you have a whole family, go buy the water then. That just doesn't feel right. Just my own two cents. |
I normally pick up one...2 sometimes. I now they keep the bottled water behind the counter during Plaza Premium days...you have to ask but I never had a problem asking for 2. Just surprised that Sodexo has them now back in the fridge.
|
i will also say 6 is a bit excessive for one person (imagine two people grabbing 12 bottles). he's paying a heavy penalty as those are glass bottles.
|
I follow "buffet rules". I only take what I've already opened and can't be consumed by anyone else. That's just me and I wouldn't really judge anyone for taking 1 to go.
6 is just far too excessive though. |
For US-bound pax it's impossible to take more than 1, so I am used to not taking anything.
|
First world problem but I almost always take two because much prefer San Pellegrino to the Perrier they have on J |
