Difference between the Wing and the Pier
Can anyone give me a quick rundown of the differences between the Wing and the Pier for the Business Class sections?
|
The food, drinks and service are pretty much identical in both lounges. The main differences in my mind:
Location: I'm usually travelling to/from North America, so my flights usually depart from the gates closer to the Wing. Space: The Wing is built on an open platform on top of the main concourse level of HKG. The ceiling is the roof of the terminal, giving the lounge an airy feel. The Pier is not claustrophobic, but it definitely feels cozier, what with the lower lighting and the darker environs. Internet Access: The Pier has more computer terminals, if that's important to you. Both lounges have WiFi. That's my $.02. |
Also, on the F side, only The Wing has the Cabanas, which are large private bathrooms/lounge areas featuring a rainmaker shower, a large tub and a patio overlooking a stream. The Pier, on the other hand, has large bathrooms with nice rainmaker showerheads, but that lack the other Cabana features. However, The Pier has the Daybreak Rooms, which are small rooms featuring a comfortable leather chair and ottoman and on demand audio/visual entertainment.

IMHO, the Pier feels more intimate, which I prefer.
On a particular weekday (non-holiday) last year, I had a chance to spend a couple of hours in each of them in the business class side. I found the Pier to be quieter. The food and drinks and nearly identical. Good service in both business class lounges. |
In the business class lounges, The Pier has a sink in each individual bathroom enclosed stall, whilst at The Wing, the sinks are outside the stalls (bathroom only). Each has washrooms that encompass the full lot, however.

No tubs in the Pier First!
Little room to sit down on 'marble' ledge! That does keep you moving right out to the food counter! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
