CX Lounges?
 

I doing an OWE (J class) and flying through HKG and doing several jumps in Asia, involving SIN, HKG, CGK and BKK, and wondered which locations have lounges worth worrying about, and also, are there any arrivals lounge with nice showers in HKG (flying in from LAX).

There are many previous discussions on this topic here, including how to use The Wing at HKG as an arrivals lounge IFF you have a same day transit. Please use the search facility.

In addition, it depends whether you have a OW Emerald card that would get you FIrst Class lounge access or are stuck with the business lounges.

If you're arriving from a CX flight and continuing the same day on a Oneworld carrier, you'd have access to the WINGor the PIER. There are showers there.

But if you're ending your trip in HKG that day, then , no, you have no access to the WING/ PIER as it is for departing passengers only.

Thus, I'll get to see both the Pier and the Wing, and I've got a few hours to spare, so I'll get to peek at Cotton Harbour, too. Seen it manby times before, but everytime is fun http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Assuming you mean at HKG, then no. If you have a same day transit but want to go into HK during the day then it is possible effectively to use the lounges to which you have access on the outbound leg when you arrive earlier in the day and then exit the airport.

On the outbound from HKG, anyone know if I'll be able to bring in two guests with OneWorld sapphire status?

I know the policy is one guest, but I'm wondering if they're flexible at all or sell day passes.

I so rarely travel internationally with more than one person that I haven't had to try to get two in anywhere before.

a somewhat related question (cross posted in AA forum but I think the experts are here) -
do the "daybreak" rooms require a reservation, or is a reservation even possible. seems like they are pretty limited in number.

When I inquired at HKG (I mix up the lounge names - it was the one closer to gates 1-4 and immigration) I was told that no reservations are accepted.

Agreed they don't take reservations. The Wing is the one close to gates 1-4. The Pier (reopens 1 August) is up near gate 65 (and has daybreak rooms - The Wing has Cabanas, which are different).

Experience reported here and by other friends is that CX can be quite tight on lounge access, although they will normally make an exception for a young child.

Remember that as a Sapphire you only get Business Class lounge access unless flying in F. This means you don't have access to The Cabanas or The Haven (the full restaurant) in The Wing, or to the daybreak rooms in The Pier.

Hey Guys,

I'll be travelling on an F ticket LAX-HKG-JNB-HKG-LAX.

My questions is: When I get back to HKG from JNB I also have a seperate Y ticket to do a side trip to SIN and BKK. So, if I'm arriving in F but waiting for a Y flight (also CX) will I be allowed use of the Wing/Pier (no current OneWorld status)??

Not much chance. I have been able to talk them into allowing me access to first lounge arriving on first ticket but going out on business which was highest class available to my destination so my F RTW had to be downgraded. That plus my oneworld emerald status seemed to convince them to let me in. Without that particular combination it seemed no chance.

Isn't Emerald status sufficient to get into the F side, even if flying cattle class?

Just wanted to add:

I spoke with CX reservations and they seem to think it would be ok and that I would have access to the lounges when coming in on an F ticket and waiting for my Y flight.

Has anyone ever attempted this?
