Sydney Arrival

Hi:

I am arriving in SYD on CX111 at 6:05am, J class, with checked bags. My wife arrives four hours later.

I understand there is no arrivals lounge. Is there any way to get lounge access to while away the four hours?

I suspect that once I claim the bags and pass immigration, there is nothing I can do. So if my wife checks all of the bags, would I be able to remain airside and gain entry to a lounge?

Thanks for any help.

You need a boarding pass for a same-day departure from SYD in order to get to a lounge. You must still clear immigration and customs even if you have no checked baggage, you cannot stay airside (at least not without being arrested). All the lounges are on the wrong side of security, hence the need for a boarding pass in order to get to the lounge.

Not what I wanted to hear, but now I can stop trying to figure out how to do it.

Thanks.

Assuming you are staying at a hotel..

Taxis in Sydney are safe, reliable and accept credit cards. Meet up at the hotel. I'd consider booking an extra night in advance at the hotel so you can guarantee check-in at that time in the morning.

There are plenty of good food outlets in the departures level of the International SYD terminal. There is also a coffee shop on arrivals level which is OK too. It wouldn't be too hard to fill in time there if necessary.

Meet up at the hotel. When you get to the hotel, presumably approximately 4 hours before you wife arrives, try to ask for an early check-in.
