Need help with advice on expiring miles!
 

Got 40,000 miles about to expire end of this month. Anyone have any advice on best way to use these? I do not have a confirmed travel date in mind so hard to buy a ticket (unless I can change the date later). How about getting them to extend the miles? Is this possible without being charged?

Book an award ticket for 11.9 months from today. Any award ticket. You can't refund the miles to your account but you can use them as credit towards another award ticket if you subsequently change your mind about the initial flight.

That's how it works for Diamonds anyway - maybe they are not so flexible for others.

Alternatively find a friend who needs an award for whom you can get a ticket and they can return the favour later (or make some other consideration).

Post a trade request with other FTer's.

Thanks for the offer but with the clock ticking, I ended up redeeming for some HK and SHA tickets good for the next 12 months, one of which I will use for a vacation in two weeks. Not a bad incentive to go on vacation...
