how long do you think it will be AFTER sars is over (whatever that means) before the number of people wanting to fly to HKG will increase enough to justify 2x/day flights?

Not long at all.

I was actually quite amazed that CX had 2X HKG/LAX daily before this SARS outbreak, yet UA had to cancel its daily HKG/LAX.

Quite a while. People are going to be reluctant to go to or transit through HK. The fact is HK will feel the impact of SARS for months if not years, even after there are no reported cases.

wideman,
A lot of times frequency can also be dictated by Cargo demand. It is not necessary to tie pax voumes to flt frequency. Look at what CX is doing on some of the intra-Asian routes (see there Press Releases elsewhere in this forum and on the web). The answer, I therefore believe, is a combination of economic activity on Pacific Routes (particulary as relating to sensitive air freight) and pax volumes. |
