More explore into asiamiles
As all of you fellows suggest I should use asia miles, I am looking at their website and find out more interesting things.
Asiamiles require more miles for upgrade like from Y to C, such as the segment LAX-HKG, look at the award chart award zone should be D, actual miles 7248, need 35,000 for one way upgrade, roundtrip a little lower 60,000. Whereas compare to UA, US to Asia is 25,000 one way, AA is 25,000 one way too but only limited to Japan from US. So concluded that asiamiles need 10,000 more miles compare with its competitors. Quite confusing about the miledge calculator and the part how to earn the miles. Put down the segment like ORD-NRT and select discount economy fare, both AA and JL only got half of the miles 3129 out of actual miles 6274. But when I go to see how the partners of asiamiles get the miles. From the Terms and Conditions, It said the classes Y/B/C/G/H/K/L/M/N/Q/R/S/V/W/X in AA earn 100% of the miles, 50% not applicaple. On JL only Y class earn 100%, and Y/B/G/K/M/N/Q/W/X only earn 50%, so that is true as what the miles calculator said. Is it they didn't update the information for AA, or just something wrong ? |
I think it's just not yet updated. AA discounted economy fares earn 100% or nothing.
AsiaMiles is never a good program in many ways, though. No elite bonuses. Even KrisFlyer gives you elite bonuses! But you will have broader upgrade options, albeit a bit more miles required than other programs. |
i guess it's not really that the mileage calculator has not been updated...just that you need to decide when you use the calculator whether the fare you are looking at is considered discounted or not, for mileage purpose...for example, for AA, while it's true that officially there are many fares that should be called "discounted", but for asia miles mileage purpose all these fares are not discounted fares...i mean, in asia miles they have their own definition of normal and discounted economy fares, not really the usual Y/B...so in the example of AA, they just do not have any discounted economy fares, under the definition of the asia miles program...
on miles required for upgrade...i guess it's a compromise...for UA, while you can earn miles on a lot of fare classes, you can only use miles to upgrade YBMH (for transpacific)...while for asia miles, as long as you can earn miles with your ticket, you can use miles to upgrade that ticket...most tickets i see are eligible for asia miles, and so are eligible for upgrades... |
for 8,000 miles - you can get a bottle of sunscreen <eek>
