HK to Honolulu?????

Has anyone heard anything firm about Cathay servicing Hong Kong to Honolulu?

There has been nothing in the HNL papers. There's certainly a market, since there is no nonstop HKG/HNL service at present.

HNL is a fairly low-yield route from Asia so service is limited. Many Asian carriers (notably SQ) dropped HNL once they got a/c which could fly Asia-west coast U.S. non-stop (HNL is quite a way off the great circle route to N. America unless you're flying from eastern Australia). BR is also (or has) dropping service. Doubt if CX will market that route as they won't get the yield they want.

FWIW, the only Asian carriers that fly to HNL are KE, JL, NH (all due to the large Japanese holiday market - did I leave out Asiana?), PR (large Filipino community in HI) and CI (seems to be a Japanese vacationer route for them). The only direct routes from Asia are from NRT, KIX, SEL, HND, TPE and MNL.

Asiana doesn't fly that route.

Don't forget the long winded route via Guam from HKG or MNL on Continental Micronesia.

they won't in the near future, unless they can connect to another port with good cargo demand. i guess not many of us would have thought what matters most is the cargo in the belly, not folks like us?
