What is CX's biz class comparable to?

I was just wondering what other airline's biz class is CX's biz similar to in terms of space, food, service etc... Is it closer to AA or more like BA for example?

The reason I am asking is that I can't make up my mind whether to fly 1st class with no Betsy seats or in biz. Maybe regular CX users can fill me in a bit?

Service wise - it is exemplary. Probably the best service around.

Seats wise - well, before the individual Betsy seats, there were the flat beds. If you're flying on an 340-300, the First Class cabin is a bit cramped with a 2-2-2 layout. However, it is still First Class and in my opinion I would prefer to fly that than on another carrier.

Business Class on CX is good, but the seats are 'manually-adjusted' as compared to say like SQ, or MH. Service is definitely better than BA or AA. Food-wise too, on long haul sectors, CX dishes out the main course and desserts on a trolley just like some airlines First Class meals. They won't be using the casserole clamps!

Look out for CX's new J class upgrade product by next year.

Hmm, I flew HKG-NRT in J class earlier this year. Decided on the Japanese meal based on the menu which promised exquisite food with generous quantities (some 12 offerings). Was rather disappointed when what was served on the tray was all the non-dessert food that was to be offered. (CP's Japanese dinner service ex-NRT (prepared by JL's flight kitchen at least in December last year and this February) and ex-YVR has fewer items but it's much more filling).

The dessert was a Movenpick icecream served in the container. Definitely no individual servings like Guy Betsy experienced but then again this was only one of 2 CX J class flights I've flown in recent years (the HKG-BKK flight had a rather-disappointing snack service).

I'd say the J class seats are more like QF pre-Dreamtime seats with more recline, and a bit like BA's cradle seats without the tilting seat cushion.

Meal service on CX's HKG-NRT (and v.v.) leg? Okay, I've done this route five times this year both in J and F, so let me talk. ;-) Why on this leg they do the one-tray, or semi one-tray sevice, both with western and Japanese choices, is probably because the leg is relatively short with around 3.5-4 hours of flight time (think about US domestic F and Europe C!). Meanwhile, the Japanese food that you were served was in "bento" style, it's meant to be served at once. (Although I do admit that the servings in F were quite more elaborate, being done in the traditional "Kaiseki" full course style.) I also have experience with CPs NRT-YVR in J, except for the main dish being served seperate, I'd say the Japanese choice was similar in style. Meanwhile, BA's LHR-NRT's Japanese food choice is also in "bento" style, despite being long haul, so don't be disappointed with CX! And as THE expert Guy Betsy depicts, I confirm that CX's long haul J comes with the trolley servings (I did HKG-LHR just a few days ago).

All other impressions, I follow Guy Betsy's comment word by word. Go for row 2 with the A340s.

By the way, the CX seat cushions do tilt a little bit, but not as much as BA's. Though, in my view, the foot rests are better and simple to use, I hate the BA foot rests!

Well, please read my most recent report on CX J class from LAX to HKG!

The meal service is better than any airline, even SQ. There is no casserole dish. Everything is served buffet or F class style, except the appetizer and salad, which are pre-plated. CX regional flights feature less buffet style due to its shorter flight, but long haul flights are definitely excellent.

The upgrade to F class sounds like a good deal. I will go for it.
