HKG - LHR pricing
I haven't flown HKG - LHR in a long, long time... but wow, ~HKD15,000 for a round trip economy flight? What's going on? How do people get to London during the summer months??
I'm in shock! |

May I know what dates are you looking at currently? I think in general the price for HKG/Europe has been quite low recently, this is especially true for Europe departing flights.

They fly another airline ( EK,QR,BA,EY etc ..) , no one in their right mind would pay that price

Would rather have a stop over which involves a couple of hours added onto the journey then forking out 15 000HKD !
|
July is the peak peak summer season with loads of high school/uni students filling up the back of the plane. Won't be surprised there's little availability. What fare class were you looking at for 15k? LGW might be cheaper.
|
At summer peak, even you take a stopover flight from ME3, it also costs you about hkd12000 or even more.

QR for example, with a 1am departure - the couple of hours stopover there is no real "time loss" because the arrival is comparable to CX and you sleep anyway. Another idea is to look at LON airports as opposed to LHR specifically. Other entry points to Europe may not have crazy pricing. Then, of course, there is ex-Asia departure points to consider. |

I normally use the ex-TPE fares (saves a lot of money in business class, but I don't know how much you save in economy). Might be worth checking to see if it's worth it - but it does take a bit more time overall.
Alternatively I've also used Finnair via Helsinki which is quite a direct route even though it requires a stopover, HK$10k if you don't mind leaving on the Friday, although Saturday's a bit more expensive at HK$13k. |
there's always CA via PEK :D:D:D creditable to AM too!
last time i checked summer peak to LHR only costs like 4k. But the arrival times are LHR evening so it might not work out, and you need to get on the 8am CA108 to be in time for transit. Usually the CX morning London flight is cheaper as well. |

That basically answers OP's question, CX was selling for cheaper, just that they are now all sold out. :)
|
This is really the highest pricing I've seen on this route for a while. I'm always looking at fares to UK during the busy July school holiday period and I'm surprised it's so sold out this far in advance. Maybe a lot of people wanting to take advantage of the exchange rate this year ....but all the benefit has been eaten up by the airlines.
I miss non full fare Y seat guarantee. |
LGW route is even more expensive.
Maybe CX needs to consider the second daily flight to LGW. |
