Inventory
Hi,
Just want to check the inventory on 22 Apr CX110 SYD to HKG. Would like to self-assess the chance of operational upgrade from Y to Y+ as OWE. Thanks! |
Still a bus...

People need to stop dreaming for an op-up.
If, and when it will happen, it will happen. No point stressing yourself pre-airport dreaming to see if you will or will not, or what kinda "chance" you will score a free upgrade. |
Try buying six tickets in Economy on that flight. cathaypacific.com will still you have 6 seats in V. Doesn't seem the seats are that much in demand is there?
On the other hand you can probably stretch out in Y. |

Thanks! Certainly i don't think i am the king of the world. I just want to see what the chances are, whether it be as high as >50% or as slim as 0.1%...
Does anyone know if an OWE is on the same itinerary with another non-status passenger, would the OWE be considered alone or as a group of two in the op-up scenario? or both but in an order? |

Your chances really aren't high at all, no offense. CX is indeed kind to Emeralds compared to other OW partners for op-ups, but it's still down on the pecking order. You've got Diamonds (and above) ahead of you, as well as Cathay GOs (OW Sapphire in CXs program). Plus most importantly your flight is empty in Y and nearly full in PEY, about as bad a situation as anyone could ask for with an op-up hope.....So I wouldn't expect anything at all and your chances are very slim. |
I observe something interesting here- when people asking the op-up possibility, usually they are OW elites, CX SL or even GR. DM and GO wouldn't ask so... much?
Personally I don't expect it would happen. However, when it happens sometimes, it is just a nice extra touch to the flight. That's it... |

Why?? Whats wrong with dreaming and hoping for an upgrade? What harm does it do you? What a lovely warm welcome for a new poster.
maybe in a few years noone cares about opup anymore cuz the mk/chi-na crew will just flood cx over |
In fact i was just thinking if i can give my companion the op-up seat if there is an op-up. If not i will see if i can use some miles to upgrade our seats to Y+ at check in counter. However Y+ is quite full so don't think the chance is high. I totally understand how bad it would be to ask for something you don't deserve in the air (like J entree when you are in Y/Y+, or DYKWIA, or ask ISM to extend the perks to their companions) so i always just see this as extras. Some people see op-up as surprise, I just like to see the probability when looking at the inventory numbers. It's somewhat a fun little exercise to do when flying for a personal holiday. Totally not stressing about this at all. It's always just about using the least amount of resources (miles, $) to maximise your travel comfort, subject to a certain range of probability (below certainty). Bad habit as a mathematician. :p Maybe I did not ask in a good way as if I have a bad attitude at the very start, or i should not have asked this question at all as a (new) frequent flyer (I should have subscribed to KVS tool or ExpertFlyer) :D Anyway, it's always good to learn from other people's perspective. |

If op-up does happen, they usually op-up just enough people to settle the overbooked cabin. I have been offered op-up for myself only and op-up for me and my traveling companion (even though we may be on different itinerary, but the agents saw we were traveling together). If not offered to the group (I was once offered two op-ups for my family of four), they will ask me at check-in or at the lounge whether I like to take the offer or to stay with my travel companions. |

On-board, technically FAs are supposed to enforce this no swapping of op-ups. In practice I'm not sure if they do, I don't think I've ever seen someone denied for this reason. One thing is certain they always know who is op-upped...you can see the list in the galley. And if you swap a seat, I recommend telling the ISM. But I *doubt* they'll deny you even though they're technically not supposed to allow op-ups to swap seats. So if you do get upgraded, and want to swap, do it on board. |
