Top Up Miles for 2 Redemptions?
Some of you may be aware that you can "top up" miles when arranging a redemption booking.
You can purchase up to 30% of what you need at $0.03USD per mile (in blocks of 2000 miles). So, for a 145,000 mile redemption, you need at least 101,500 miles banked, and can buy the rest. However, you do not have an option to limit the banked miles you use when utilizing this top-up feature. For example, if you are making a 145K redemption, and have 145K miles banked, you cannot tell them to use 101,500 miles for the redemption and you'll pay for 43,500. In other words, they will use ALL of your available miles, and then allow you to purchase the rest (with a cap of 30%). I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this when booking TWO redemptions? Booking two redemptions at 145K each would require 290K miles total. 70% of that is 203K miles. Assume one has 203K miles banked. Would they allow you to get both tickets using 203K miles plus paying the fee for the other 87K "top up"? Or, would they use 145K for first ticket, leaving 58K miles in your bank (which of course is not enough to get to the 70%/101.5K miles needed)? |
IIRC, you cannot have 2000 miles or more left in your account after top-up and you have to top up one redemption at a time. Hopefully that answers your question.

Just convert them from Moneyback. US$0.03/miles is crazily expensive.

What is "Moneyback"?

Top up cannot be done for two redemptions in your case. If these are two redemptions, they are not processed together. You cannot top up with your first redemption because you will have more than 2000 miles in your account after the redemption without topping up. After Asia Miles processed your first redemption, they cannot process your second redemption because you don't have 70% of your miles in your account. Topping up is very expensive anyway. |
Hi All
Sorry to tag onto this thread but my scenario is kind of the same. Can anyone confirm if the following is possible? - I want to redeem 2 x Multi Carrier awards @ 140,000 Miles per ticket (total 280,000 miles) - Redemption is for me and my partner (she is in my redemption group) - I have 200,000 Miles in my account - My partner has 60,000 miles in her account 1. Can i process both tickets at the same time by combining the miles from both of our accounts? Then using the AM top up for the missing 20,000 miles? 2. Or can i process the first ticket from my account, then let my partner use my remaining miles (60,000) with her 60,000 from her account + asia miles top up? In short, we require 280,000 miles so can we combine the miles from both of our accounts (260,000) then top up the missing 20,000? Thanks a lot |

No Thanks for the reply. This has put me in a very sticky situation as my whole trip has to be cancelled/ reworked now. I've literally spent so long sorting out the wait lists etc it's soul Destroying! Do you have any suggestions on the cheapest way I can do this now? 1. We need 140,000 miles x 2 2. I have 200,000 miles in my account 3. My partner has 60,000 in her account (she is in my redemption group) Thanks a lot as usual |

Topping up 42000 needs USD1260 (21 blocks of 2000 @ USD60 each). * Business award is particularly bad with CX alone, not to mention their partners. If economy is OK for you, you can have 2 @95000. |
Twonga if you can understand the 37.5% meaning of this https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post23678520 then you can debit 60,000 of your wife's miles and credit 37,500 to your own.
Sorry but its a very labour intensive process requiring one non-upgraded moneyback barcode card and visits to Moneyback kiosks on six separate days. You link your partner's AM to your MB at https://www.moneyback.com.hk/Web/Pag...46&sp=SAMLogin Convert 10,000 miles to 25,000 points at the kiosk (must be kiosk) Delink her and relink your AM Convert 24,800 or 25,200 points to 6,200/6,400 AM to your AM Repeat 6 days |
thanks both
i think i will just end up buying the tickets in economy now. Its so depressing thinking we would have nice lie flat business class seats for the 16 hour round trip flight and now we are stuck in Economy :( |
Too bad, moneyback would've been v useful
Curtail the trip to a lower zone Or you can buy 40 blocks of 2,000 miles at US$2,400... |
