Whats the situation like at immigration upon arrival? Hopefully no long queues for non-US passport holders.
This is a sampling from June 4-11 around the CX 812 arrival time. |
The 0145A departure time is the ideal departure time if you ask me. For Boston sourced pax, it essentially allows the pax to have a full day at work, and then head to the airport after dinner instead of waiting until the next day. Super efficient for vacations. For HKG sourced travelers, it allows a full day in BOS before heading back to HKG.
I'd imagine most of the pax on the North America end are sourced from the BOS area. Surely, they're not getting pax flying LAX-BOS-HKG-SYD, though I might be crazy enough to actually do such an itinerary :D (Sister who lives in BOS, girlfriend lives in HKG). |
What is the service timing aboard; specifically in F? Meals first or just on demand?
Thanks FDW |
From Boston...Drinks, Caviar Service, Dinner etc after take-off, but I'm sure you could switch the timing if you wanted.

What time does security close at Terminal E? I have a connection arriving at 12am into Terminal B. I am a bit concerned that security will be closed by the time I make my way over to Terminal E for the 1:30am departure.
I'm thinking of getting to terminal E at around 1am, wondering if security would be closed. |

One would think many if not most people on the BOS flight are living in Boston and not all staying in hotels.
Since these flights arrive in the morning in HKG they make quite a lot of sense. Check-in will no doubt be at least 3 hours before departure since they no doubt will say you should check in at least 3 hours before departure. As for flying these transpolar overnight routes I find it best to set my personal clock to HKG time and stay awake, eat, sleep accordingly. On YYZ-HKG (same departure time) I stay awake until about 9 p.m. HKG time then sleep until 4 a.m. for breakfast, as it lands at around 5 a.m. |

Will travel from YVR-HKG on CX889 (I am on F, whilst my parents are in J), how do I plan the pattern for myself and my parents to adjust the personal clock? (dep YVR on 7/4 02:30AM, and arr HKG at 8/4 7:20am HK Time)
Unless you can be knocked out for 9-10 hours straight, try not to sleep too soon after takeoff or you'll risk waking up at ~2-3am HKT. Then again, westbound TPAC jetlag has always been an easy fix for me, so YMMV. The reverse, however, is much harder to deal with IMHO. |
Arriving in the morning is always good, isn’t it? It makes good use of time.
Departing at midnight just makes everything better. |

Did you make it?

There is no TSA precheck there, if you were wondering, just "expedited" (which doesn't do much for your liquids or laptop). I did see a guy having trouble, having supposedly had online checkin and a barcode on his phone somewhere, but it didn't work. And there was nobody at the Jetblue counters. And it was half an hour prior to his flight's departure. |

Try to align your wakeup time right before the breakfast meal service. Arrive in HKG and try to stay awake as long as possible until a regular hour in the evening, maybe 9PM. If you really need to take a nap, try and keep it short, 1-2 hours. Then pass out and hope to get a complete night of sleep without waking at 3AM. Next day you should start feeling very tired again in the evening. rinse/repeat. You should be fine in 2-3 days. Like SilverChris said, fight the urge to sleep right after boarding. I see a lot of passengers doing this on JFK/EWR flights. Take a late nap the day before boarding the help stay awake for a few hours after takeoff. Good luck coming back. I've not found a pattern that works to minimize the 4-6 days it takes to acclimate. Although that's on the flights back to NYC which usually depart late afternoon and arrive in the evening on the same day. HKG-YVR flight has a different pattern. |
