Keep in mind, CX SL and BA SL are not the same tier. I would say the CX SL is the same as BA Bronze and CX GO is BA Silver. I have found that the tier points being offered by BA and CX are somewhat similar give or take depending on fare class but for the most part, if you're going to hit 300 tier points on CX, you'll probably hit 300 on BA.

If you have a choice between banking the club points/tier points into CX MPC/BA BAEC to become CX SL/BA Silver or CX GO/BA Gold respectively..
And not the same level on either airline? e.g. OW sapphire OW Ruby = BA Bronze = CX Silver OW Sapphire = BA Silver = CX Gold OW Emerald = BA Gold = CX Diamond https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/my-oneworld-tier-status |
Was CX Gold and now BA Silver
What makes BAEC difficult for people based in HK will be the 4 sectors required. (Can consider BA SIN-SYD-MEL/BNE etc which can make 4 sectors) |

Hello guys,
If you have a choice between banking the club points/tier points into CX MPC/BA BAEC to become CX SL/BA Silver or CX GO/BA Gold respectively, which one would you guys pick? Based on my fly pattern, it seems I can achieve a one level higher OneWorld status with BA than with CX. Yet, I am flying with CX most of the time. Thanks! :) As previous posts have pointed out, you'll need to have 4 sectors on BA qualifying flights, which could be achieved on IB as well, as well as BA/AA codeshares for Atlantic crossings (obviously have to be booked on a BA -125 ticket). Note though, Avios 50% tier bonus only applies to BA/IB/AA/JL but not CX. If you're flying CX a lot, you earn pretty much the same Avios as you would in Asia Miles (distance based x fare class multiplier). Just did LHR HKG yesterday in W on CX with my newly qualified BA OWE status. Was treated super well, as well as CX DM in the same cabin. No opup, but wasn't expecting one anyway. BA is generally alright at dishing out opup ex-LHR on longhaul flights, esp on some of their newly refurbished 'super high -J' 744. These planes have close to 90 J seats and I have scored W-J upgrades every time i've been on that configuration. If you're do fly between Canada - US, those short haul redemption flights require much less avios than you would with Asia Miles. Obviously other factors to consider, but for me, BAEC trumps MPC any day now. |

As CX gold (OW Sapphire) and BA Gold(OW emerald) are not the same tier level, what is you basis of getting one or the other?

It looks like the OP is well aware what Oneworld tier each of the relevant BAEC and CXMP cards translates to. What he/she is asking is, given their travel patterns is likely to result in either (a) BAEC Silver / CX Gold or (b) to BA Bronze / CX Silver, which of the options within each of the a and b variants are superior.

Not sure if you typo'd but the combos under consideration are BA Silver vs CX Silver or BA Gold vs CX Gold.
