Does MPC still allow early reset after programme changes?
 
Does anyone know if after the programme changes last year, MPC still allows early tier reset if you've already earned the requisite Club Points for your current tier?

Do you have to request that, or it just automatically happens? I can't recall if this has happened to me.

Curious because I will finish up gold when my my Weds segments clear, but my year ends in February. I have a QR J class trip to Europe coming up before than and would be great if that went into next year!

1. If you have already requalified by the end of January, it used to be that by around 6 February, they will reset your year and requalify you for Gold. So if your flight is later in February you might be fine.

2. Since you are flying J class anyway on QR, I would remove the MPC number from the QR booking, and then just request to credit it after you have flown.

Yes - phoned MPC on 11-Jan to reset, received letter dated 12-Jan by post on 13-Jan with new membership pack (HK address).

MPC agent asked me if wanted to reset, or if I would like to try to reach 1400 points for the mid-tier benefits.

Do yourself a favor. Don't do the early reset. Simply hang on to your boarding passes and either don't enter your MPO number or remove the number when you leave the lounge or are boarding the plane (you'll still get your benefits this way).

Then request for the credit when your next year begins (do be aware 6 months is the longest time you can claim missing miles).

This has multiple benefits - you get a full 12 months for the number of points you have accumulated, and secondly, it may even help you in the following year to reach ahead get to one of the additional benefit levels that the Club now has. I got to the 1600 point level by doing this when my actual number of points flown in the membership year is between 1400-1500...

I suppose so ... you can call 11:59pm the last day of the previous month and you can still get reset on the 1st.

Plus one major benefit that I'd forgo by removing my MPC number is op-up. There are some long haul flights I take at a specific time every year where I get pretty reliable op up from Y+ to J.

Those op-up is the main reason I fiddle around so much to try to keep my tier status whereas it's far easier and cheaper to just let it drop.

removing MPC number in lounge does not guarantee to work, but it works most of the time.

In order to maximise your benefit and still have MPC number removed, you will need to be at the nearest lounge next to boarding gate, and have your number removed after boarding started.

Personally, I would think a roll over of any over credited club points to next year will benefit both member and the airline.

For the past 5 months, I have been withholding entering my MPC number on my bookings since I only wanted to hit 1,600 CP and have the excess credited to the next membership year (beginning in Feb).

Yesterday, I was booked on the CX 495 in premium econ for TPE-HKG. While in the taxi to the airport, I checked on the status of the inbound CX 494, and found that it was 90 minutes delayed ex-HKG. Therefore, CX 495 would necessarily need to be pushed back.

Got to the airport, and indeed a delay for CX 495. I asked to switch to the earlier CX 421, which was departing on time. However, no premium econ on this flight, and I accepted a downgrade to econ. I asked for an exit row seat, but since I did not have my MPC number loaded, I showed my MPC Diamond card to the agent and she had to enter the number, grab the exit row seat free-of-charge, also issue the lounge pass, and then delete my MPC number again.

At gate, I got upgraded to J. During the meal service, I caught a peek at the flight attendant's seating plan sheet (the one with all the J passengers' names and status on it). There was no MPC status next to my name, and only written in "IU" with an up arrow, which I assume meant an "involuntary upgrade"?????

So, a few questions:
1.) what triggered the upgrade, since I didn't have my Diamond MPC status loaded? Did something happen "behind the scenes" with the duty supervisor at check in?
2.) was the flight truly oversold and I got an upgrade, despite no official status? (J was completely full, but I did not notice any other upgrade indication on the seating plan sheet.)
3.) when I eventually apply for retroactive credit of the flight and Club Points next membership year, what class of service do I claim? Do I claim the original premium econ, but which I ended up not taking that flight and accepted a downgrade to Y? Or, just claim Y, but then in what subclass? (Obviously, I should not be entitled to claim J.)

The op-op happend at the time when your MPC number was entered. Downgraded ticket due to delay etc will be top of op-up list according to my experience. It is a way CX says "sorry" for your trouble.

For FA's manifest, it normally get printed 10-30 minutes before gate open, so as long as you were "nobody" at the time they printed manifest, you were nobody on board.

you claim as original class paid and booked. PEY this case.

They use iPad now. So that can be updated to the last moment.
