I think you should be more concerned about the flight arrival time than whether 3 or 4 class PE seats, since you would be sleeping for a lot of it and they are the same seat.
4 class - 888 - leaves HK @ 0005 lands at YVR @ 2030 - essentially sleeping on plane after a long day in Asia, land in YVR, and it's bed time again. For most people this will make them stay up all night and have jetlag issues. 3 class - 838 - leaves HK @ 1620 lands at YVR @ 1245 - leave after a short day in Asia, nap a few hours on the plane, and then landing while "fresh" and have enough rest for the rest of the day. This flight will have less jetlag issues if you can adjust accordingly. When the a350 flight comes out, it will be leaving HK earlier and landing at YVR @ 0755, which will allow you to have a full day if you are well rested on the flight. |
Just flown 77H and 359 in PEY for long haul. I definitely prefer 77H (even without 31AC,32HK), the seat is much softer (and with legrest as well) than than the ones in 359. Good to have its own PEY toilet in 77H instead of fighting for toilets in 359.

I guess, to each his own wrt jetlag, but 888 works much better than the current 838 for me, and I simply dread early morning arrivals (future 838) eastbound.
Eastbound is question mark: - My inbound was CX888. I boarded full and drunk (from the lounge) and dog-tired and slept a solid 8 hours (basically when the plane was taxiing I started to doze...I only woke up to lay my bed almost flat and take a duvet over). I was expecting to be awake the whole night and needed do some work on arrival but at 2am I gave up and took to bed. - CX856 looks like my previous Europe-HK eastbound (CX234/CX260/CX252). Have a big lunch, doze and stretch it out to a big long nap which I normally can, hit the ground running at HKG (YVR) the next day. I can normally survive the following day in full. - Not sure about CX838 with the 4pm HKG departure and 1pm YVR arrival. Seems I'll check into the YVR hotel and nap. |
