Redemption Ticket Chances

Hey there,

So a friend of mine is looking to redeem tickets on CX from HK to Australia.

Outbound: CX 101, HKG - SYD, October 15
Inbound: CX 138, SYD - HKG, October 28

She's currently on waitlist for both seats she's trying to redeem on business class (U-Class??) and never gets a proper answer from Marco Polo.

Anyone have any idea on how I can check availability and what the chances are of this happening? My friend only has the Green status.

Thanks!

There are a easy way and a expert way.

Easy - Login to CX to see if you can book the flight.

Expert - Using EF.

The chance depends on the load. It is best if you friend has the economy award ticket issued and is waitlisted for business.

What is EF?

EF = ExpertFlyer.

From EF:
* CX 101, HKG - SYD, October 15: J8 C0 D7 I0 W0 R0 E0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S0 N0 Q9 O0
* CX 138, SYD - HKG, October 28: J9 C0 D9 I0 W6 R4 E0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O0

Chance is not good.

Thanks for helping me check @cxfan1960! I'm not very familiar with EF, what letter should I be paying attention to?

J/C/D/I = different subclasses of Business class (redemption seat should be after "I").
9-0 = seats availability where 9 means at least 9 seats are available.
Good luck!

Just to further clarify, the number after the fare subclass means the number of seats available to purchase. Not necessarily the number of physical seats that are available.

Delay one day and her chances improve considerably http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post27249910

Actually until EF gets a HK POS, there's a difference in the two methods.

I can replicate cxfan1960's findings in my own EF (minus one seat), but when using https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK.html I find:

CX101: I4
CX138: I2

Expertflyer stated POS other than UK and US incl HKG will be added in the future https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...l#post27032553 , but until then we have to use EF for depth and https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK.html to find out what lowest fare CX is really selling

Are you sure that the booking class for your chosen flights were for I?

As always.

However - what important to newbies is a tool that they can use to help them making the booking. So as stupid as it sounds, CX's booking tool is in theory the best tool for searching award (as if available, you can book it at the same time).

BTW - OP wants U class (Business redemption), not I.

Yes, it may be easier to try to book on CX booking engine first as a GR member, but she is already on waitlist. Perhaps she can just keep trying.

TalkFlyer already mentioned U should be after I earlier.

Garykung well since op is waitlisting I assumed U is currently zero, even though that assumption isn't always correct.
