Batteries allowance at HKIA
I will need to carry some power banks from HKG to SYD, I have checked with cx that they allow carrying up 20 lithium batteries (under 100Wh) as carry on luggage. Does HKIA allow 20 batteries to be carried through security check?
"In cabin baggage Allowed inside equipment, plus 20 spare pieces allocated per passenger Must be presented correctly (either enclosed in original retail packaging, with the terminals taped over or each one placed in a separate plastic bag)" |
Haven't brought 20, my maximum was 16 - and nobody even looked twice. I don't think they care at all about these things, as it's not on "their" list of prohibited items (unlike liquids). In fact, they always refer you to the airline for any particular questions. Wouldn't worry about it at all.

Just had a very hard time at HKIA last night. Airport security wouldn't let me through with 20 batteries, escorted me out to ask a CX agent to come with me again. Chief security said to CX they need CX to say OK. However, they've been talking about this for 20 minutes then finally the CX agent wa given a form to sign.
it took me about 40 minutes all up to go through the security with 20 batteries which both CX and HKIA was OK with |

Yikes, I did not see that coming. As I said, I went through with 16 and no problems whatsoever
Mine were single cell 2600mAh's, how about yours? 1. Clearly HKIA is CX's home base, HKIA and CX would know each other's restriction about batteries. 2. Why would HKIA still has to force me to get someone from CX to escort me to security and sign to confirm. 3. I asked CX about batteries at F check in counter flying J, and seems no one cares about what HKIA would do to me at security. There are couple of senior staff at F check in and it seems they've never heard any problems before. So I guess I was the first one to bring 20 batteries through HKIA security, lucky I was there more than 2 hours before departure. |

HKIA security wants to make sure that they are not liable and a record exists should anything happen. 3. Perhaps nobody tried to bring 20 batteries before. |

Why in the world would you be carrying twenty power banks?
|
We were some powerbank short for a customer order and container is another two weeks away. One box is 20 batteries.
