Manchester Lounge

Curious as to what I might expect from Cathay lounge in Manchester - fear the worst as likely not to be their own lounge unless there is a One World lounge

You can see which lounge CX uses at its airport page

looks like the pay use the Escape lounge. There is a BA lounge in terminal 3 but I don't know if you can get from terminal 2 to 3 airside.

Then I am right to have the lowest of expectations!

The Escape lounge in T2 has been closed recently for refurbishment. Not sure if it's re-opened yet. QR/VS were giving vouchers for use in the restaurants.

The old lounge was a bit grim. Not sure if the new version will be any better.

Toilets are outside the lounge.

yes I flew with Qatar in March and the lounge was closed but it should have reopened by now. I used the lounge in December again with Qatar and no amount of re-refurbishment is likely to provide the necessary leap in service required

Its not possible to get from T2 to T3 to use the BA lounge.
As others have mentioned, the old lounge CX used was not so good, I visited once, then decided its better to be sitting in a bar and paying for a Guiness ;)

The £12.50 voucher I was given by Qatar when the lounge was closed did not even cover both something to eat and a Guiness!!

Yes the lounge is better than nothing. However one might expect that if you arrive in the morning and ask for a copy of the Economist and The Times that instead of saying they have all gone here is a copy of the Mail that they would replenish the supply.

the food was a disappointment (apart from the chocolate brownies) and the selection of drinks mediocre

I agree Manchester airport could not care less about its passengers and the lounges are a disgrace (perhaps not the worst in the world).

You have to wonder about the airlines here because in theory they could ensure that the service meets their customers expectations

Having said that Etihad in Manchester have their own lounge and it has to be one of the best in the world (for a small outpost) with world class customer service and a real personal service and staff who go out of their way to make sure you have all you need.

The new lounge wont be much better I fear as this airport is one of the worst in Europe for investment into customer services and facilities. They are totally focussed on duty free sales and 24 hour drinking for the mass of louts who frequent this airport.

A few weeks ago the lounge is closed and they give you a voucher which you will be pushed to spend on anything half edible.

Also pay attention on certain days after 12 or 13 hrs on board they will park the plane at a remote stand and make you get on a bus which takes forever to fill up, while you endure the awful cold and weather, then they bus you 1 minutes walk to the terminal, you will then go up stairs, down stairs then up more stairs to find walkways that are turned off, no dedicated UK passport control or E gates open all to save money for the airport.

Then you will give up the will to live waiting for your luggage.

I'm sorry but I've never had a bad experience at MAN and vist it often. I guess I must be one of those louts then or something, limited expectations and what not.... Not seen a UK only passport lane for a long time anywhere and the e-gates definitely were working last time I was there. Not to sure how you rank investment either, they have put a considerable amount of money into the airport. Oh well I guess grudges stick.

MAN is one of my more frequently visited airports. The lounge is a fairly typical paid entry lounge. There are a few snacks and some mildly comfortable seats but don't expect much more. It's really set up as a place to escape the throngs of charter/LCC airlines and tourists MAN mainly caters to.

Cut your time at the airport to a minimum. MAN is fine for a European outstation airport but if you're used to HKG you'll be very disappointed.

Manchester Escape lounge has now re-opened. It looks much better now.

To be honest the looks were far less of a problem to me than the facilities/range of food and drinks, and most of all the attitude of the staff.

I remain to be convinced that this is a lounge suitable for any airline aiming to be at the best and certainly not a 5 star airline like Qatar or Cathay
