Worthwhile shooting for GO?
Currently at 405 club points with SIN>>> PVG vv and SIN>>>MNL vv ticketed in I which would take me to 565 points by the end of my membership year on May 31. Was wondering if there is enough push to do an MR SIN>>>HKG vv in E and hit 600 points to attain GO.
What are the difference in benefits for GO (published and unpublished) as far as being GO is concerned. Off the chart, I am seeing the guaranteed Economy seat which I may not be able to utilize anyway. Thanks in advance |
Well unlimited lounge access with a guest especially on CX and partner airlines is a great benefit. You also get more baggage to check and priority boarding, again also on partner airlines. Expect more op-ups as GO on oversold flights and better recognition. Higher priority on waitlists and upgrades.
If you were at 405 points at the end of May, I would have said forget it, but being only 35 points away, I think it's worth it. |
What alphaod said. And I would certainly go for it if i was in your situation
|
Depends on your situation. I find being able to take a guest into the lounge with me quite useful as I sometimes have a co-worker, relative or friend travelling with me. I am based in Australia, so I need Oneworld Sapphire to get into Qantas Club lounges when flying domestically. Also I suspect being one tier up helps getting upgrades and less waiting when ringing the Marco Polo hotline.

Being based in HK and flying mostly DM and GO heavy routes (PVG, SIN, TPE), I have to say there has been little difference between SL and GO. Once every three or four flights you get a greeting from the ISM, but besides that I haven't seen much of a difference. On op-ups, I actually feel like I got more when I was SL!
Having said that, you're so close to GO anyway. I would just go for it. |
for 35 points extra, i would think GO is worth getting it. SL is only good for CX, no benefit at all to fly at other OW carriers. with GO you get extra luggage & lounge with CX & OW.
Be able to take the person fly with you into lounge is a good thing. GO will get better treatment than SL and I think it is really the minimum level as a VIP frequent traveller. CX got too many SLs. |
Thanks for the view. It points clearly to renewing for wider benefits especially on partner/OW airlines.
in recalculating, PVG and MNL will take me to 585 points with the 2 I class bookings 2x 50 + 2 x 40), so I would just need 1 V class BKK trip to clear 600. Pretty much doable. |
