Hong Kong First Family forces CX to break airport safety rules

Basically the First Daughter of Hong Kong forgot her luggage landside, and demand airport personnel and CX personnel to reclaim it for her so she can take it with her to San Francisco. They originally refused, but she bought in her mother (first lady of hong kong) to argue, it's already boarding, but she insisted she can't leave without her luggage and CX/Airport both relented. The owner of the luggage is already on board the plane (daughter) and her mother, against the rules, identify the luggage for her daughter and demand the luggage be checked-in, at the end the Airport Security's Assistant Manager actually come to apologize to the First Lady, and she said "thank you"....

CE's daughter or no, shouldn't a CX staffer walked her back to retrieve the bag, then expedited her return to gate? An unattended bag even in non-restricted is just as big a security risk.

Use a buggy if necessary.

In any case I am surprised CE's family uses normal passenger boarding gates at HKG. I seriously thought at least at HKG they would be eligible for VIP clearance as if a visiting head of government would.

At least she didn't scold then make the ground staff kneel. She should have been deplaned like any other passenger.

If she does the same at SFO, she will likely be deplaned and perhaps get more. I am not sure if CX's SFO check-in agents will (or can) do that for her.

Were the nuts served on a plate or in the package?

Its no shock to see them acting like parasites but AVSECO should not be bending the rules just because someone with a little power gets shirty with them.

Our masters up north have quite clearly stated that the Chief Executive is above the law (and in China it appears that such privileges generally extend to family members), so there's nothing new here really.

How can one forget one's carry-on bag? You would need to take it through security checks, twice...including one at the gate? She didn't realize it until she was on the plane?

As most HongKongers know, the CE's daughter is a complete fruitcake!

She doesn't seem to be the smartest person on Earth, but a mother checking in a forgotten baggage for her daugther doesn't seem like "breaking airport safety" for me.. I've checked in luggage for friends who knew they'll be arriving after baggage checkin but easily make the flight. Guess I "broke airport security" several times then :D

I think the rule is broken but I think that rule (which relates to hand luggage) is inconsistent with rules relating to checked-in luggage. If (say) I checked a bag in HKG (or in anywhere but Taiwan!) and a security officer had a problem with its contents during scanning, a security officer and a baggage staff will bring the bag over to the gate to await the passenger right?

Checked in baggage can be locked or unlocked, just like hand luggage.

The only difference is the passenger did not check or intended to check in the bag in question. All that is required is for security to ask:

"Is this your baggage?" (yes)
"Please look. Has anything been added or taken away?" (no)

Don't quite get why hand baggage is treated so much differently from checked in baggage.

P.S. the comment in the bottom of the second hongkongfp piece (HK CE has right under Aviation Security Ordinance to change security rules) is funny - a throwback to Obama and the umbrella Marine http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...amas-umbrella/
