CX 289 Delayed
 

Just received a text from CX...

"CX289/8 Feb from HKG will depart at 9:30
(8h 55m late).We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Cathay Pacific Airways Limited."

Does anyone know why the flight is delayed?

I don't have any information, but there are generally enough 77H frames and I don't know of any issues with incoming flights, so I *suspect* it isn't equipment related but rather a pilot / crew issue, and most likely pilot issue. I don't think any frames are out of commission right now.

I suspect pilot because there have been a lot of work-to-rule issues with the pilots for the past 6 months. Perhaps the Captain went sick on your flight tonight? Generally it's easier to sub out FAs than pilots, especially if the Captain is the one with the problem. My understanding is that there isn't a whole lot of slack designed into the pilot rosters, and was designed in such a way that it required pilots not to work to rule. Of course, the pilots argue CX is sweating them to the extent fatigue is becoming an issue. Part of their argument is based on the nature of the routes changing in the last decade, as the 77Ws arrived....as it was described to me, "flexible" was okay getting swapped around on regional flights, but flexible gets exhausting when you're "flexible" 12-16 hour long-hauls at the flip of a hat. Since I've been flying CX pilots always seem to be miffed, while CX mgmt always seems to go out of its way to not give any ground. It's not quite as acrimonious as the US but the pilots always seem to gripe and mgmt never seems to want to lose face by looking weak and giving an inch. It's a lovely dynamic that we all benefit from;)

I was on a flight a few months ago where our midnight departure took a Captain at the last-minute from the MAN flight, which subsequently went out very delayed.

My *guess* is this is the strongest chance what happened to your flight?

It continues to amaze me that people post flight numbers looking for assistance. Not everyone knows the flight number they are flying. The do know the names of the cities though.

Posters would get more responses if they included that in their posts.

Thank you. I agree about just posting the flight numbers. Some people may have them all memorized but most of us do not.

You don't need to memorize the #s...
 

Guys, you know you can pull flight #s straight from google search? It displays in humongous text at the top.

You just go to Google and type "Cx289" or whatever. It works for most major airlines globally. Flight times, progress (if flight is en route), and even gates.

At least, that's the US and non-EU version. I think that's one feature which is possibly disabled (or pending being disabled) in the EU due to the EU suing Google for competition issues, somethinf about displaying data mined from elsewhere. But it's a fantastic feature if your country is non-EU.

Yes, I could find out the information. But, if a poster has a question and they want some help, THEY should be the one including a full question in the first place.

It continues to amazes me people will spend time (and multiple posts) to post critiques that doesn't add anything to the forum, but not give the courtesy to just give a helpful answer and move on.

In situations like this it's generally easier to just call CX and ask why. Most of us here only get secondary information anyway, and those with enough connection to get primary information probably won't post here.

Okay enough commentary on posting information. It would help others if details of the flight were posted not just the flight number. However enough off topic discussion.
