Question about Seat Selection/Maps
Hi team,
2 days ago, I checked the J seatmap on my upcoming CX840 flight on 1/23 and I saw a few empty J seats to pick from. I recently checked into my CX840 flight and saw that there were around 6-7 J seats empty. This was about 12 hours ago. I just checked again and saw that there are 13 J seats empty! I am wondering how it is possible that the plane was more full LONGER before the flight departs..? It can't possibly be the case that 6 people were bumped to a previously empty F class right..? Does CX block some seats until some hours before the flight or something? Are a coincidentally large number of people canceling their tickets? Thanks a lot for the insight! |
Question about Seat Selection/Maps
Doesn't seem that implausible, given the number of people who might ordinarily change their tickets close to departure and then a few more pax who might have changed their travel plans presumptively in light of the bad weather forecast for the northeastern US this weekend....
|
Business travelers change plans frequently, and often last-minute. In my old company, we often schedules meetings with <1 week notice. For meetings scheduled earlier than that, there would be a 20% chance they were rescheduled or canceled. That happened more often for road warriors.

Last minute changes, people who can't make the flight, lots of reasons.

CX do block seats. You can check EF to see if it is actually occupied or just blocked.
|
Sorry, I'm new here. What is EF?

www.expertflyer.com - a paid service many of us here use to get a better idea of airlines' inventory and seat maps
EF does display for CX "Starting at about 55 hours before departure, CX may change their seat maps to show all Occupied seats as Blocked". But strange going the other way... |
CX 840 is cancelled today due to the snow storm.
|
So people were preemptively rebooking onto other flights... how did I forget that.
