Redeem Tickets with multiple stopovers

I'm trying to redeem an award PE ticket from Vancouver to Hong Kong and Tokyo. When I search online, it shows that Vancouver to Tokyo (both inbound and outbound transits in Hong Kong) cost 54,000 miles. A round trip Vancouver to Hong Kong ticket would cost 72,000 miles. So I thought I could take advantage of the stopover and transit rules in a redeem ticket as follow:

Vancouver -> Hong Kong (stopover for 2 weeks) -> Tokyo (stopover for 1 week) -> Hong Kong (transfer) -> Vancouver. I thought this would only cost me 54,000 miles, but when I call to get this ticket book, they told me it would cost 108,000 miles. I'm not sure is the Agent wrong or did I interpret the rules incorrectly?

Thanks.

You're wrong.

YVR-HKG on CX - 72k
YVR-NRT-HKG on JL/CX or JL/JL - 72k

YVR-NRT on JL - 54k
YVR-HKG-NRT on CX/JL or CX/CX - 108k

And note that you cannot redeem PEY on JL segments.

54K assumes you're flying direct from NRT-YVR http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=yvr-nrt (4,674mi, Zone C)

Not NRT-HKG-YVR http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=yvr-hkg-nrt (8,234mi, Zone E)

In any case I don't think JL currently flies PE to/from YVR on their 787-8...

Just as a note CX counts Great Circle Distance if you take a direct flight with stops (I don't mean nonstop) (recently discussed example include CX888 JFK-YVR-HKG http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post25842035).

But if you are making your own connections then CX counts the Great Circle Distance of every transit you put in.

I'm not sure I follow. Are you saying that CX for #888 counts JFK-YVR-HKG as 8072 (JFK-HKG "direct" on GC) rather than as 8841 (which would include them as separate segments). Conversely (and I doubt this but gonna ask anyway) has CX ever used their flight path to determine mileage? HKG-YVR is 14,160 in this case. http://www.costtotravel.com/flight-number/cx888

AH! Well that very well might make a difference in the points needed for my own award ticket coming up. Thanks for the insight! :)
