Logic behind selling seats?
 

So my flight tonight has 21 j seats open, not assigned seats. Y is full and pey has 5-6 seats open. Cathay website is not selling J seat online, nine available.

Does this mean they are opting up folks to fill cabin later? Or are there J passengers not assigned seats yet? Id imagine they wouldve olci already. Im curious as to why are they not selling seats if they are available?

Open seats on seat maps do not equate to unsold seats. If you have an ExpertFlyer subscription, you can see how many seats Cathay is willing to sell at a specific fare class.

I did a search in carhay website and none are availbe for sale on tonights flight. Wouldnt it appear if seats are available for sale?

EF is showing CX873 with 0 availability in all classes. Cathay isn't selling any more tickets on this flight. Most probably it means a completely full flight or for whatever reason CX doesn't want to sell anymore seats on this flight. My guess is the former. On the bright side, you might be able to get VDBd off the flight, if that's of any interest to you.

Voluntarily bumped? We are a family of 4. Kinda hard to get 4 of us on another flight so ce i checked and most flights this week are fairly full. Just curious what vdb compensation would be?
