I did the QR midnight flight HKG-DOH-CDG last month and on that odd day, QR did a equipment swap from a 332 to a 333, with their new J seat- if you're familiar with QR's all-J A320, it was that kind of seat in 2-2-2, slightly angled towards the windows, but totally flat.

I have to say I hated that J seat so much- terribly narrow and impractical in terms of storage space!

Just curious, what are the letdowns of QR Y? I always wanted to try it if I have to fly to Europe on $ instead of miles...

None. The let down is having to fly CX on the last leg. QR is much better in Y in my humble opinion (and a QR ticket much more affordable in general). All the other segments in my journey are on QR except the final DOH-HKG segment. Apologies for not making this clear in my original post. :)

CX Y is fine. Maybe difficult if you're used to J. If I am forced to fly Y long-haul, I would pay more for CX, SQ and TK, and only consider other airlines if the price is significantly lower or there is a mileage / status target to achieve.

CX Y is difficult as I am used to EK Y and QR Y.

Appreciate the post thanks OP, I am also connecting to CX640 via DOH with a connection on QR.

CX640 is a funny flight time. Leaves in the small hours and arrives after lunch, so I am not sure what I would be expecting in terms of service. If I wake up for breakfast, not sure where I will be but I am sure I will only have slept about 3 hours. Hopefully I can sleep through to about midday wherever that be

As for seats, my seat map on CX is A330 is 1-2-1 and I understood they are Cirrus seats as are QR, so I'd expect the same amount of space with just a bit of variation in finishes

Have an upcoming trip where I would end up flying CX640 on the final inbound back to HKG. (The entire trip in Y.) Having flown QR in Y before, I am dreading this final leg where in the back of my mind I believe it will be a complete let down. If anybody has conflicting information, please share. :)

Depending on what QR aircraft you will be on, CX Y on the A330 is far more spacious. I don't think you will find many better Y seats than 39A/K, although it's not going to be a pleasant experience on any airline.

CX Y is better than EK Y-at least the former doesn't have 3-4-3 on a 77W.
(not to mention I can access the CX lounge in HKG which is far better than EK's lounge, and getting CX/OW status is far easier than EK status when flying deep discount Y.)
