How are the headphones in PEY?
While I don't own a pair of QC15/25, I do have my own pair of Sony noise cancelling headphone that somewhat does the job.
How's Cathay's longhaul headphone in Premium Economy? I notice they are noise-cancelling too. But obviously they won't be the same pair found in J/F. http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_U...omy-class.html Are they half decent? Or should I bring my own pair? |

I can't recall if PEY is the same as J, but if anything the PEY ones will be superior - the ones in J are pretty bad. They'll hurt your ears after long enough. Bring your own CX phones except for F aren't anything to write home about. |
For the record it's horrible. Always get static sounds and sharp BEEP sound when it's not inserted in a certain way, and when you bumped it when you shift around. With my own headphone? Never a problem.

I was always under the impression that PEY has inferior headphones compared to J. At least in terms of packaging where PEY comes in a plastic cover much like Y where as in J...I don't even know
|
I didn't pay much attention to the headphones. PEY connection can easily get loose and as mentioned by Cathay Boy, can be really noisy if not inserted properly. J headphone is stored inside the small closet and the connection does not get loose easily.
There is nothing to write about for both headphones. I often read from the caption instead of using the headphones. |

Bring your own as the above posters have said - far better audio quality.
I also find the J headphones to be very uncomfortable after a while as they tend to squash your ears with more pressure than I like. Note for PY, if you use your own, you'll just need to use the standard one plug connected to your headphones and no double plug adapter as the other plug is smaller. |
Just took a round trip J... Outbound the headphone was sort-of malfunctioned and the right ear keep giving static sound... Changed it and then it's good... Inbound the connector was very loose and very easily get the static sound if I moved the cable....
For PEY, I tried to use a Sorry standard plug earphone some time ago but not working...... |
Thanks everyone.
My own pair of sub $100 USD Sony NC isn't exactly anything to write home about either. And it does get uncomfortable after 1-2 hours too. But I guess the biggest advantage is the plug won't come loose as easily. |
I have my own noise cancelling headphones (Panasonic, highly recommend them as a cheaper alternative to Bose) which I always bring for premium economy or economy flights. The J ones are still not quite as good as mine in terms of either comfort or sound quality, but they are close enough that I don't bother bringing my own and save some space.
The PEY headphones are not the same as the J headphones and definitely not as good. They do have "cups" rather than the flat foam of the Y headphones so they are at least moderately comfortable. Sound quality is not as good as J either. Not sure if they are noise cancelling. They are okay if it is a short flight or a night flight where you are not going to be using them the whole time, but if I am on PEY during the day I'll definitely bring my own. Comfort is so important when using headphones on a plane, even gentle pressure on your ears is going to hurt after 9 hours on a longhaul. The Pana ones I have are slightly oblong rather than round, which means the padding rests around your ears not on them, which helps enormously. I did have that same problem as sscywong recently in business - scratchy static as the plug was loose in the socket. I would've complained but it was a night flight and so I only discovered it with about 90 minutes to landing. |
just out of curiosity, i just bought Bose QC25 and it comes with 2-prong airplane adapter that can be changed to 1-prong too. but QRC3288 mentioned that in J, CX has 3-prong, so does it mean that I can't use my own headphone?

No you don't need the three prong adapter. The twofer is good enough.
