Pricing to BKK
 

Hi.

I am new to CX having primarily used TG and SQ for the past few years to get around South East Asia.

I am having a bit of trouble getting a sensible fare quote from the CX website and wondered if this is a common issue and any work arounds.

I am looking to Fly HKG-BKK out on 28th Sept, return 3rd Oct. The website is throwing up prices of $6k+ return in economy, more than twice the price of regular round trips I have taken previously and also more than twice the price of competitors such as TG.

Is this because the departure and return dates are more than a month apart? Is there any work around? I'd prefer to use CX as I will be connecting from another CX flight on the 28th (TPE) which will make my life easier as I can check my luggage all the way through.

Any suggestions or should I just book TG and have a mad dash from baggage collection to TG check in - there is around 2hrs between scheduled arrival of the CX flight and the TG flight I am looking at.

Two relevant holidays:

28/9 Mid-Autumn festival holiday
1/10 China National Day

So HKers are taking a week off for the price of three.
Mainlanders used to (think they still do) take the whole week off for National Day.

I would just avoid HK and China altogether that week...too many tourists trying to get out.

Unfortunately there's no avoiding HK as I live there! Really surprised at how uncompetitive CX are versus their competitors but I guess I will just get to bank some miles towards TG gold renewal.

With the interlining thing, I am going to be on two completely different tickets, one for leisure. Are you saying I can rock up to the Cathay desk in TPE and they will be able to check me in for my TG flight and ticket my baggage all the way through?!

It seems unlikely but I have never had this situation arise so I really had no idea it may be a possibility.

Airlines in their home countries are usually more expensive IME

No need to dash like mad. At check in, show CX your connecting TG flight at HKG and CX will tag your bags through to BKK. You only go through security at HKG and no need to go through immigration and customs to check in again. After airside security, you proceed to TG at the transfer desk to pick up your boarding pass for BKK.

Hang on... after airside security in which airport do I get my boarding pass? You mean once I have landed in HK I can go to the connecting flights counter?
