That said, it appears that the flight is not actually full (they open more seats from time to time); and my understanding is that CX doesn't opup unless the flight/cabin is oversold.
Correct, they only op-up if the flight is full, which it now is in Y, PEY, and J, but has F availability. So, one can hope....

And, yes I can't do a thing about it, but isn't that half of what we do on FT anyway?
