Avios? Asia Miles?
I have about 75000 points in Asia Miles and Silver status. I also have 50,000 points in AMEX. I know the transfer rate to Avios is 1:1 and to ASia Miles is 1:1.25.
If I want to travel from Shanghai to Toronto business/first class, what would be the best way to use the points? |
My transfer rates for MR to AM is one-to-one in the US...?
Anyways if you want to book travel, you have to move the points to one platform. That said, I think you only need like 85,000 AM to book from PVG-YYZ one-way. |
Canadian Amex? But even that's 1 MR:1 Avios or 1,000 MR:750 AM.

Assuming you want to fly CX, AM requires 145k for roundtrip in J (OW is 85k).
AVIOS requires 330k (OW: 115k). I guess in any event AM is the better deal. Can you get AAmiles? 110k for J, 135k for F (halve for OW). |
Whoops. I made a mistake - it's not 1:1.25. Yeah- I have Canadian AMEX. I don't have access to AA points. We don't have as many options :(

193.33K MR for R/T with AM vs 330K MR for Avios
|
Well if you transfer to AM, you would have 112,500 AM. I think you're allowed to buy the difference.
Another way is to sign up for a credit card that gets you more MR points you can then convert to AM. |
While it won't help the OP with his current trip, ba points are generally much more useful than Asia Miles if you redeem regional awards in economy.
