Was anyone here a member of the MPC of yesterdayear? Before Asiamiles?

I remember when I first qualified in 1997 and received my nice big leather portfolio along with my GREEN Marco Polo Club card. Yes. Green was the entry level but one must fly 30K miles in J/F over 6 months I remember to get that. And once you did, you get the Green card. The Green card got you lounge access if you flew economy.

But then each city got its own MPC coordinator, and remember the lovely events they organised? Back then when the MPC meant something to CX..

My membership city was Melbourne and there were only a handful of MPC members then. The MPC coordinator knew almost every MPC member by name.
Unlike what it is now... sigh.

I was, but part of the Young Discoverers Club since young (around 4/5 possibly?). Definitely around 97 period of time (but I flew a lot since I was born anyways, so really unsure)

I was given a pair of golden-wings pin, similar to the pilots' ones, and a really nice logbook. Lots of pages there and we can ask the captain to sign for each of the flights that we took on the logbook!

Oh those good old days!

I still have my MPC green cards from 1994-1996 and silver from 1996-1997. I was in ADL and was underage but it didn't seem to be a problem. I can still remember my MPC number from back then! I still have the dark green long zipped passport/ticket travel holder with a long retractible leather loop...

I did a one week work experience at the ADL office in Year 10 and got to know all the people in that small office. The coordinator introduced me to the other staff as "the youngest MPC in Adelaide". I still recall finding my own bookings and typing in a message like "VIP, please upgrade"!

I was simultaneously also a member of the Young Discoverers Club - me and my younger sister. There was a nice small dark blue logbook which we got signed. There were also "points" to be earned which could be redeemed into gift coupons at Marathon Sports. I still remember going to the CX offices at ?St. George's Building and selecting the gifts there.

Yeah! There wasn't an age restriction back then, with the flying I did at high-school, I would've continually qualified, but they ended the program when I was still underage! Sadly I lost those cards (I think.. couldn't find them), I think I was just a Green.

The Australian MPC requirements gave us 1 year to fulfil the minimum required miles & sectors to qualify for the MPC card whereas it was 6 months for the rest of the world.

In any case, I had the leather folder too. Of course, I can't find it now! :(

Where did you guys banked your flights then? Passages?

I think I credited majority of my flights to Aeroplan (yep!) as CX was a partner with them then, and also with Ansett Frequent Flyer.

I first qualified for MPC in 1998, but unlike you I recall I had to rack up 40000 kilometres in CX flights irrespective of the booking class 6 monts before the request to join date.
I'd say that CX was head and shoulders above competition until circa 2003-2005. From thereon it has slid towards the mid of the pack, although in all fairness I do not see around other airlines that have the same outstanding combination of hard and soft product like the old CX. What I fear most for the future is a combination of increased mainlaindization (from the other shareholders) and american style raw utilitarianism pushed from hired US consultants will further push down what was once a splendidly run airline.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I had to credit CX miles to ANA, because of residents in Japan could not join Pasages.

I qualified 12 business class sectors within 6 months.
In those days, CX used km unit rather than miles.

Green 40,000km or 12 sectors
Gold 60,000km or 25 sectors or 500,000km in 5years
Diamond 250,000 km or 60 sectors or 1,000,000km in 5years
Lifetime 2,000,000km/10years

Boarders who flew back home every term break were MPCers ... upgrades were frequent due to overbooking back then ...:D Good memories ....

My parents joined in circa 2002 and at that time they still received the black folders (and we have them at home). When I joined in 2007 they didn't give out the black folder.

Young Discover's Club here, old enough to redeem presents from Swire House office before they tore it down.

I still use my parents' black folder for my documents pouch.

And get off my lawn!
