Moved from seat with broken IFE
So I had my favorite seat booked, but upon check in I was notified that the seat that I was picked had a broken IFE and I was proactively moved to a different seat. Okay, thanks I guess?
Well to my surprise when I board I find someone else in that seat? So what are they going to offer compensation to that passenger (though apparently an op-up)? Because I didn't even use the IFE during the whole flight, so I would have liked my original seat. The original seat was a bassinet seating, but the passenger in the seat did not have an infant. I am more confused and just wondering if I was kicked from the seat for some other reason or someone misrepresent their situation to get the seat I picked well ahead. |
Once upon a time, CX emailed me they could not provide my preassigned seat because of computer system error.
The flight was NRT to HKG. On board, I found Chief Executive of Hong Kong (Mr. Tung) and his wife and staffs occupired seats which included my preassigned seat. |
I would not be very happy if CX decided to give my pre-assigned seat to someone else of their choice....

what about the person was given the op up with the condition that it's a seat with broken IFE and no compensation can be claimed?
|
This happened to me with a recent Air Canada flight.

I wonder if they other passenger just informed them that they didn't care about the IFE, and was willing to sit there. I wonder if you just said, you did not care about IFE, if they would have let you keep your seat?

Don't airlines put nonrevenue passengers in slightly broken seats like this?
I don't know, I haven't a clue who is a non-revenue passenger on a flight. Posters here always seem to know and comment about what the non-rev passengers are up to. |
1. When you were moved, did you tell them that you would prefer that seat even with inoperative AVOD?
2. The VIP stuff happens all the time. I was displaced from a seat once for former President Ford's Secret Service team. Mr. Ford was on the flight. I approached him just after deplaning at our destination; and he was warm and outgoing. |

Could have quite easily been that they moved a staff/zed traveller for you.

SQ pulled the IFE sca on me to boot me from my popular preassigned seat to a PPS customer. When I did not want to move the seat had more and more flaws until it was a security risk to even touch it. So I'd expect CX to work in similar ways ... |
Same thing just happened to me on a recent AA flight in F, ICN-DFW. At boarding was told that IFE was inoperative in the seat I had assigned. Surprise,! Someone sitting in it, using IFE the whole flight:(

Using technology as an excuse.
Airlines wish they could do that 30 years ago :) |

A few years ago I was offered an upgrade from economy to a business seat with broken IFE (before premium economy). I jumped on it and hope for the same offer on every flight  The IFE was truly not working, but I had an Ipad and great sleep for the 14 hour flight. Haven't had the same luck since.
