Possible new destinations; BCN and MEX

Here's the link.

I might add, these are passenger and NOT cargo destinations.

Now, if it gets govt approval, does the 77W have the legs to do a nonstop to MEX? It's a high altitude airport. If it's a one stop destination, wonder if it'll go through YVR or LAX?

HKG-MEX nonstop is not possible for 77W

freakinflyer001 Jan 8, 2015 5:58 am

CX should do something like HKG-YVR-MEX
Could use this to compete with the inferior AC service, and also to increase YVR frequency

Initially, I thought this could be LAX-MEX. They stated their preference in using a 3 class 77W to MEX. That would eliminate LAX, if it's a one stop service as LAX is 4 class. Then again, they do have LAX based crew and 882 does sit on the ground for a while.

HKG-BCN-MEX? CA does PEK-MAD-GRU

Round trip between MEX and LAX is going to be roughly 11-12 hours. Probably not enough to fit into the turnaround time between CX882 and CX881.

CX flies cargo HKG-GDL, so don't see why HKG-MEX won't work. Takeoff fuel loads are similar, I believe.

I take that back. The flight stops in LAX.

RT MEX-LAX is 7 hours tops.

Oops, my bad :p. I was comparing MEX-LAX with CX's Japanese turnaround flights since the flying time is pretty similar.

deleted....duplicated.

I don't think there are any 5th freedom rights to fly a route like HKG-LAX-MEX. HKG-YVR-MEX is possible.

I think if they did something like HKG-LAX-JFK, they wouldn't have the right to carry passengers from LAX to JFK. If it is flown outside of the U.S., I think they do.

Think of KE with their LAX flight to Brazil. MH a long time ago had a flight to MEX from LAX.

Well, personally, I'd love that big time, but I think it would make for an extremely long HKG-MEX trip indeed especially as full refuelling would be needed, so I make it about (or possibly over) 24 hours depending on direction!
